My time: Thinking of you this evening. Less than 11 hours until you're starting a new phase in life!! Many blessings to you.

Thank you for thinking of me. Everything seems to have gone well. I've been up and walking, and cannot wait to see what tomorrow brings... Hopefully some Water. ;-)

Wonderful!! How's your pain level? Are you even noticing pain over your thirst?

Hi, thanks for asking. I got home yesterday afternoon. There are some aspects that are harder than I would have imagined. Like getting in all the liquids. Having issues with that. Not hungry, so the 10 billion food commercials don't really phase me. My legs feel like lead, but I guess that will get better with time. You will be hAppy to know the crew at the hospital are exceptional. Will taker really good care of you, but don't expect to sleep for more than an hour at a time. To sum it up, I'm not out dancing an Irish jig yet, but will you there.

You will do great. Hang in there. The liquid diet is awful, but it will get you where you need to be. After your surgery, we'll compare notes. :-). Keep me up to date on your progress please.

Wonderful news about the hospital staff. And thanks for the encouragement. I've been nervous about the pre-op liquid diet since hearing last week that I had to lose 5% before surgery. Reason being, I was 249 up until I got back from my cruise. Then this past Monday I was up to 254!! Ugh! Of course some of it might have been my steak dinner from Saturday night. BUT all I could focus on was that 5% from 249 is 236.6 & that's 12.5 lbs to lose BUT 236.6 from 254 is 17.5 lbs!!! I am just a little nervous about losing that larger amount to get down 5% of the last weight they have on record :-(

Anyway, enough about me... I'm so glad to read that you're not having complications. I will definitely be keeping in touch. In fact, feel free to come by the hospital (if its not a great distance for you) while I'm there! I'd love to meet you in person & have face-to-face contact from someone so close to my date & by the same doctor :-). I'm so glad I found you on VST!!

Susan, does your liquid diet start next week. I'm not going to kid you... It sucks, but really, by about day 5 or 6 it really does get easier. If you need someone to talk you off the ledge, just send me a message. Day 5 was the day I thought I would not make it. My husband and I sat down, drank some wine, (liquid ;-) and Saturday morning I got up dusted my self off and pushed forward. I'll be thinking about you. You are going to do fine!!!

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!
