So I’m thinking of putting myself on a (pre)pre-op diet. I haven’t had my consult with the surgeon yet, but I am really scared that my liver will need to shrink more. I had to have a CT of my liver and won’t have the results till I meet with the surgeon. Not everyone in my options class had to do a CT, so I’m worried that my liver is larger than normal people of my size. I have been doing a lot of research on nonalcoholic fatty liver disease, and now I have convinced myself that is why they wanted the CT.

Has anyone else done a (pre)pre-op diet? Did you tell your surgeon when you met with them? I’m also hoping to have my surgery by mid-August. So I’m hoping that they might count the (pre)pre-op diet as part of my pre-op diet.

What happened that they thought your liver was was larger than normal? You have not seen the surgeon yet! Who examined your stomach to determine this? Do you drink alcohol a lot? Just curious. This is one the few things I did not have to go through yet.

Well I started my pre op diet a week early...so instead of the typical 2 weeks, I was on it for 3 weeks....I did it because I'd started therapy and noticed that towards the end of the school year i'd started stress eating and gained 19 pounds since I saw my doc in Feb....I went to my last pre-op appt and he saw I'd gain, but I told him I was going to try to get it off before my date....

with the 3 week pre-op I managed to get 15 pounds off before the procedure....

When I went for my gallbladder ultrasound I was told that they found something and required to have a Ct done. With my insurance, you don't meet with the surgeon until you finish all of your pre-op testing and a 12-week class. I've finished everything, now I'm just waiting on my referral to the surgeon (should hear from them anytime). And no, I don't drink. My mom is an alcoholic and just the smell of alcohol makes my stomach turn.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
