Starting Liquids Monday

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone I'm starting my liquids this Monday the 23rd & surgery date is August 6th. I'm so excited & scared out of my mind at the same time. Is this normal? Also, I have been having doubts thinking of canceling. I don't know if it's just my nerves or what. I keep saying to myself what if I don't wake up. What if i can't handle the pain (going thru the recovery process & everything)? But i do want to be healthy. My husband says either way he will still love me, no matter if i decide to go through with it or not. What's going on with me? I was so really for this in April....

This is perfectly normal. I think everyone who is about to have any kind of surgery, whether elective or necessary, has this feeling. It's a big deal. You would be crazy not to be at least a little nervous. Weird thing for me is I had a calm that came over me. I knew it was right as I was laying there waiting to go back. I was confident in my surgeon. That's the most important part. He's never lost anyone. Only had 1 leak in the 3000 surgeries he's done, and that was in the first 10 he did. He has his method down pat. So breath, relax and know that it's not going to be easy, but it's going to be worth it. Good luck on surgery and can't wait to have you on the loser's bench.

I'm starting my liquids Monday too, we can be buddies!!! I'm scheduled for surgery Aug. 1, and don't have to start liquids until the 25th, but I figured what's 2 more days. I'm just ready to get the show on the road so the butterflies in my tummy will go away.

I think it's only right that we have second thoughts. This is a major lifestyle change and it's going to take a lot of determination and hard work to be successful, but FINALLY we will have success because the sleeve won't let us down. I have had 8 surgeries in my 44 years, so I'm feeling pretty good that I will wake up. ;) The best thing we can do when that fear creeps in is get busy and get distracted!! Fortunately, we are in the process of selling our house and moving...we close 8 days after surgery...so I have lots of things to do with my nervous energy.

We are going to be fine and successful. We can do this!! Sending you great big hugs.

I was actually approved almost two years ago and got a sore throat and took it as a "sign" that I should hold off. Well guess what?!? In those two years I packed on 30 lbs and have regretted not doing it back then. I am now going trough the process for insurance approval etc ... Fingers crossed as I NEED this :)

KayKay, how did you do today?

I'm doing pretty good. I have a tiny headache and I'm a little sleepy, but otherwise good. I got hungry a few times, but drinking Water or broth seemed to satisfy me. One day down, right?

I'm on my 9th day of my liquid diet before surgery.... & it kills me to say I cheated.

I cheated three times :(

I cheated the 3rd day

I cheated the 4th day

& the 5th day, but not since then. I pray I didn't jeopardize my surgery. & my husband is sitting directly in front of me eating a grill chicken sandwich with BBQ Sauce that's smells oh so yummy :P:)

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
