Have the worst reflux and for some reason nausea , I'm 2 weeks out tomorrow and today is when I get all these horrible symptoms. I take my meds and they help a little but not much... I'm hurting and it's bothering me! Ugh! Had to let that out, I'm gonna try to lay down, I've been on my feet all day.

Try chewing up some Tumms and take some Mylanta before you lay down....When you lay flat the acid reflux tends to get worse. The Mylanta will coat your stomach. Acid Reflux and Heartburn are the ONLY issues I have had since my surgery.. I had no pain, no gas, no nausea, nada.....I guess on that note I am lucky... :) It gets better though but you just need to stay on top of it and take a daily med for heartburn. I eat a good 6-7 Tumms a day.... Usually 2 after each meal.....

Call your surgeon and let him/her know. I started on liquid Zantac when I came home from the hospital, but started having breakthrough heartburn about 3 weeks later. I called my surgeon and he added Prevacid to my meds. Three days later the heartburn was completely gone. I would advise against taking anything over the counter without checking with your surgeon first!! Best of luck to you!

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
