So I had a ton of labs done only to find out I have next to nothing of Vitamin D. We have been working on raising the levels which are going up but I'm wondering if anyone else has or had this problem?

My surgeon told me scads of people have Vitamin D deficiency, that it has become an increasing problem because people avoid the sun to avoid melanoma. I had it and he prescribed 50,000 mcg of Vitamin D daily.

Yeah I understand that- I'm from Wisconsin and am told we usually are due to lack of sub exposure but I hardly had any in my system. Scared me a tad- BUT it's going up - thank u both for validating this. Feel better ;)

Vitamin D deficiency is very common. I was given a prescription for a high dose. It won't delay your surgery.

I had low Vit. D also. Finally got my levels up to normal range, but it took a while (and a trip to the beach)!

I had the same problem after all the blood work was complete. Exerything else was

fine with the test. I was told it was caused by lack of sun and not eatting enough fish.

I told them there test was wrong because I spend many hours in the sun with my daughter travel

softball.I just did not understand what the nurse told So, I research this and found

that people that are diabetic (I am) can not process Vitamin D good and need supplement

and they prescibed a pill.

Hope this helps

Good Luck (sleeve on 8-6-12}

Yes many people are Vit D deficient. It in itself is not a problem. But I was told that Vit D also impacts Calcium absorption. As long as your Calcium levels are good, you will be fine.

My mom had Uterus issues and had her labs done. They showed that she had Vit D deficiency. Her doc did many other tests and found her calcium absorption was pretty low and she was at a high risk of getting osteoporosis. Dont mean to scare you! Just wanted to let you know of the issues related to Vit D deficiency.

Low D here too... everything that has been said I have heard as well... and bug I'm right there with you, girls and their softball = a lot of sun! I'm not diabetic, can't remember if it was the pcp or surg that said it but apparently sunblock does so well at blocking sun now days that it is also blocking the d from absorbing. (that is sooooo my problem! I burn to a crisp without it lathered on!) So there are tons of reasons, and simple fixes!!! Maybe we need a -d section on the losers bench ;)

I'm another one with low Vitamin D. When mine was first discovered, my level was 7 and I think its supposed to be over 50. I was on a prescription Vitamin D and my levels came up somewhat so I was switched to the OTC vitamin D. You agent alone. Take care.

I just found out that I have low Vitamin D as well. I was prescribed Vitamin d, but it makes my stomach so sick. So, my husband picked up Vitamin D gummies and I take the equivalent of my prescription.

I wish you the best!

Wow thanks everyone- I guess it's not so abnormal. My level was an 8 but now a 22. I'm taking OTC- they increased it by 1000 IU's now again. I'm not diabetic but I do have auto immune issues . Ugh- so many medical issues I truly believe can be helped so much, if not solved by weight loss. Thanks again!

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
