My surgery date is December 6 and I go for my pre-op visit next week - have any of you guys received all of your pre-op diet instructions? So far' date=' I have not gotten much guidance from my surgeon's office, but I am assuming they will give me lots next week?[/quote']

I've had my pre-pre-op (i.e. months before), pre-op liquid, and staged post-op diets since the NUT appt before I saw the surgeon for the 1st time. My center has a booklet of info that they give to everyone who is pre-op or contemplating it, that has all the diets, surgery types & surgery-specific issues/procedures, as well as checklists & exercise guidelines. So I've been indoctrinating myself for a few months now. Lol but I'm truly grateful for it...they really do a great job. I feel very lucky.

I'm sure yours will give you all the info you need at the next appt.

My son and I are December-sleevers also, but it's funny how every doctor's office procedures are different. We saw our surgeon once to introduce ourselves and for him to verify that we were good choices for the surgery. Then we met with our "patient advocate" who gave us the list of everything we would need to do for pre-pre-op testing (all of which he set up for us) and he told us what we needed to show insurance so that they would approve it, including a letter of approval from our PCPs and a 5 year weight history. We have completed all the hurdles and I'm waiting to hear from the advocate that he is submitting it to the insurance. We won't meet with the surgeon again until the surgery is scheduled.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Anyone had the TORe procedure? How did it go? How much weight did you loose?

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
