I have a stricture. I can't believe after almost 7 months I'm just finding this out. Explains why things always go down so slow but I thought it was myasthenia gravis. I'm waiting on the call for an EGD.

What is a stricture? I thought the term referred to the ability to eat less...I'm confused? Also, what are the symptoms?

The way it was explained to me, a stricture is a narrowing area of the stomach,,mine is at the top where food enters the stomach. food kept getting "hung up" and I'd get an uncomfortable feeling and sometimes food would come back up..I thought I was either eating too much or it was the the lack of muscle from myasthenia gravis (an autoimmune disease I have) causing trouble swallowing.

I think you might be thinking of restriction. That's the ability to eat less,,not stricture. Hope I explained it ok.

Thanks Lissa,,,I know,,it's been crazy. I think it'll be ok and I still don't have any regrets. I'd never lose 70 pounds so fast and easy.

The good news is, that now you know what the problem is. Do do know what the options are to fix it? or does that happen when you get your appointment with the specialist? I know that you have been struggling with the stricture for a long time. It will be nice to see it gone! :)

I think he's going to balloon it open. I knew something was going on but really thought it was unrelated to my sleeve. Well, it is what it is but I'll survive.

How long have you been having trouble swallowing? Did this just start happening, or have you "known" there was a problem for months?

I know you had an issue in the past, is it related?

At five months I've not had a single, solitary speck of a problem, so I'm just wondering if something like this can still suddenly happen with no notice, or if you have signs for quite a while....

I told my doctor at my 3 month visit that I was feeling like something was getting stuck and I'd sometimes have food come back up,,not vomit (sorry tmi). I also had trouble with swallowing,,which I have myasthenia gravis which causes muscle weakness and swallowing is a big issue for myasthenics so we thought it was due to that. I saw my neurologist and they changed up my meds. But I just kept feeling the same feelings so I told them (bariatric doc) that I was still having the swallowing issues,,feeling like something was stuck and sometimes food coming up..I even thought it was just normal that maybe I was overeating or eating too fast which I do sometimes,,not on purpose. So they ordered an upper gi,,I just heard the results today and they said there was a stricture,,a slight tightening at the opening of the stomach and doc wanted to do an EGD. I'm sure he wants to see everything up close and personal and decide if I need the balloon treatment,,which is the next step. This is not related to me leak..I've had a swallowing problem for several years due to mg but this seperate issue just over the past few months. Sorry,,I'm so not good at explaining things.lol

This is interesting. I have food "stick" or "feel heavy" sometimes, and usually that feeling lasts way longer than the time it should take to be passed through my stomach. The sensation is also related to reflux. Have it when I fall asleep - reflux. Don't - no reflux. I had a similar sensation with my band. with the same reflux/no reflux result

I've never brought anything up with the sleeve though. food, vomit, or otherwise.

I've been suspecting esophageal dysmotility, but my interest is piqued by your story. Please keep us updated. :)

I have dysphagia (due to mg) and gerd (therefore suspecting that's the problem) but when they did the upper gi,,they compared those films with the films I had back in January when I had my leak and apparently there was a significant difference. I don't mean to concern or scare anyone,, I think we all have some degree of swallowing and digesting issues due to our new stomachs..this is just a fluke..not sure why this has happened. It's not the first time I have had a more uncommon side effect due to a procedure, med,,etc. I'm not normal.lol

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
