I am heading to Dr. Kelly/mexico for my surgery. Too low BMI and no pre-existings (yet). Not willing to wait until my health goes downhill.

Question....do you need a NUT? I see so many people posting about nutritionists. Is this highly suggested/required? I do not have insurance that would cover this. I do not have the time (2 jobs & 1 long commute) to do this.

If so, how do you go about searching for one that is WLS accepting without being critical of my decision?

For my insurance company, I had to see a NUT. But I do know people who have gone to Mexico and haven't had to see a NUT at all. I did learn a lot from my NUT and am very thankful that I seen her. She was totally helpful. I did resent it though. But overall, highly beneficial. ;)

I was self pay and I didn't see one. I don't feel that I missed anything. My doctor gave me diet and Vitamin instructions and now a yr out I just eat like everyone else just very small portions. I think it's totally up to you and what you feel comfortable with. Good luck.

I like having a NUT because she gives me suggestions and encouragement for dealing with stalls and making sure I get in all my nutrition. I have always enjoyed the menus and recipes too. Since your insurance will pay for it I would take advantage of it.

do you need a nut

StillLooking

I had my surgery locally. I met with my NUT that works with my surgeon couple of weeks before WLS. Then I saw her again in a month. Now i see her every 2 months when i weigh in and see my surgeon.

NUT (young girl who is extremely nice, and informative) told me to email me with any and all questions. Told me she responds by the end of each day. She does respond by the end of the day. ;)

i have emailed her many times, asking her this or that advice etc.. I've even told her about this board. i heard this or that on the board, wll ask her opinion. She is extremely helpful, i don't know what i would do without her. :)

IMO it helps alot to have a NUT. if you decide you want a NUT- call your PHP and ask them to help you find a NUT that is covered by your insurance.

good luck on your WLS

kathy

sometime you feel like a NUT, sometimes you don't (couldn't resist)

yeah, that's another issue entirely. May have to search for another PCP as I'm pretty sure mine will not be supportive since I'm low BMI (he weighs all of 110 lbs. soaking wet). Great guy but would probably encourage me to try low cal, low fat, exercise, yadda yadda when just that alone has not worked.

But I will find out soon enough. :)

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
