3 Days Post Op, Need Protein.

Recommended Posts

I'm pre-op but I think people add the unflavored Protein Powder to broth and crystal lite.

My surgeon said not to worry about Protein when on Clear Liquids. I didn't have to start keeping track of protein until I went on full liquid, second week. Good Luck

My surgeon said the same thing - just worry about staying hydrated the first week. I'm having problems just with that, I don't know what I would do if I had to get Protein in as well.

At Kaiser we were all recommended to start Isopure immediately as a clear liquid. A 20 oz bottle has 40 grams of Protein. I bought mine at Vitamin Shoppe and there are lots of flavors. It counts as clear Fluid so you get hydration woth protein.

I'm not even sure if I could tolerate Isopure at this point. I'm really sensitive to tastes and the power of suggestion, and there are too many people here who call it Isopuke. Blech.

Ok thanks, what did u guys do at home the first week, im four days post op and the only time I've left the house was lastnight to go to Walmart and by the time we left I was starting to feel sick so I really don't want to leave the house again until my one week check up. Anything helps. Thanks.

Don't worry about Protein 1 week post-op. Focus on hydration.

The best clear Protein I've found is Nature's Best Isopure in "grape frost". I add some SF grape drink mix (I get it at Target, it's their house brand) and it pretty much tastes like grape koolaid that leaves my mouth feeling a little dry.

I'm over 3 mos out and it's the only Protein Drink I can really tolerate. Sleeve-wise, not preference-wise. Standard Protein drinks are just too thick. Any time I drink something more viscuous than Water, I feel it in a major way.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
