My first appt is next Friday and I'm soooo excited! I've been overweight since age 10, obese since 18, morbidly obese since 21. Now, at 31 and with a BMI of 45, it's time. The things I'm most looking forward to (in no particular order) are playing with my kids (ages 2 and 4), riding a bicycle again, riding roller coasters, not having to pretend that I'm afraid of flying when really I'm just embarrassed, etc etc etc. My wife is incredibly supportive, but it's so nice to have this forum. I've been trolling for a week and decided today is the day I'm joining the party. Woot wooooot!

Hi Cons, and welcome to the boards. Its great to see so many new faces. Taking the first step in this journey is always the hardest, but once you place that foot down the rest comes naturally.

I hope your first appointment goes very well for you.

Here you will find alot of people who will answer questions, ask questions, give support, need help, scared, sad and lonely and it is so great that we all come together as one in each others needs.

I hope we can make you feel at home here while you are mapping your destination. Best of Luck!!

I'm really happy for you, but slightly disappointed this thread isn't about the greatest boy band from my childhood. ;)

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
