Sleep Apnea Study

My whole BiPap fits into a custom made bag that's about the size of a briefcase. I can set it up or take it apart in less than 5 minutes, including putting Water into the humidifier. Is mine unusually small compared to other machines? I use a ResMed machine.

Lissa, mine might be a ResMed (my husband is sleeping so I can't go check :) but I can tell you that my cpap is about the size of a loaf of whole grain bread. Then there's the long tubing and the mask. It fits into a custom made bag. When I fly, I leave the bag at home and pack the cpap into my carry on, with a bit of room to spare.

My husband has one too, thank goodness! Saved my marriage :P the gentle hum of the machines lulls us to sleep. Doesn't help much in the romance department though, we look like Darth Vader!

I've never had a problem keeping the mask on, and I used to roll all over. My husband's sometimes moves off his nose and the air escapes with a little noise, but I just nudge him, he fixes it and off to sleep we go. It all depends on the type of mask you're fitted with.

BTW, I've never heard of a BiPap, what is it?

I was tested and diagnosed with hyperventilation and sleep apnea. I cried myself to sleep the first week because I had to wear that sexy mask and live plugged into the wall...and I travel internationally for work' date=' I cant tell you how stressed I was trying to figure out how to make that work right in some 3rd world country where I couldn't ask for distilled Water (in retrospect I was being dramatic, all that has worked out easily)....but forced myself through it, knowing the stress it puts on your heart. I had edema and was putting on weight daily. Now...OMGosh I would kill someone who tried to come between me and my CPAP. I didn't realize how strongly my life and health were being impacted until I actually had a few weeks of good rest under my belt. The test was kind of uncomfortable for me. Lots of wires, really nice room but you know people are watching you sleep on a camera so that was weird. But nothing uncomfortable.[/quote']

I meant hypo ventilation dang auto correct in these iPads I hate it

PKB, BiPap is a CPAP machine that has two pressures, one for when you are inhaling and one for when you are exhaling. For me, it made a huge difference in the clausterphobia from the mask. Since I have good insurance, my doctor made sure he set me up for the best machine he could get for me. My current pressure is 22/12, so it's really pushing air in when I inhale and then drops really low when I exhale.

I use the full face mask, probably the same as yours. During my last sleep study, the tech tried to give me a nose only mask and I almost had a panic attack. I like being able to open my mouth if I need to without having air pushing out! :)

Has everyone out there had to go through a apnea study? I just found out today it is one of my requirements. I know at least 20 people that have had this done over the years and were told that they had sleep apnea and talked into a c-pap machine that sits in there closet. They always try it out and either they can't wear it or it comes off in the middle of the night. I really do not want to have to do this and spend the money that it requires. I think it is a big rip off. I was told that wls is elective and that is why. I have had other surgeries in my life that were elective and never was forced to to this. Any advise?

I have to agree that sleep apnea is turning into a big industry. I had to have a study Pre-op. I knew I had apnea from another study 5 years before. I had it managed with a TAP3 dental appliance, and by sleeping on my side. The sleep study place could care less. They slapped a CPAP on me, sent me home with it and billed my insurance company. I had no intention of using it and they didn't care. The appliance I am using is FDA approved and proven effective in the treatment of some severe OSA, but they refused to do the study with it. It was obvious they make their money billing CPAPs to insurance companies.

I had another surgery 6 months ago that made a sleeve look like a walk in the park. The surgeon knew I had sleep apnea and no one worried about whether I had a CPAP.

I just had my sleeve Wednesday, and I was ultimately able to just use my dental appliance.

I had a leep study, as a requirement for surgery. The tech told me (unofficially) the next morning that I did not have sleep apnea. Doc confirmed it at the follow-up appt. No machine or mask here.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
