Worried About Link Between Morning Sickness And Post Vsg Nausea

Recommended Posts

I am scheduled for surgery Monday the 16th, and I am naturally a bit nervous about it. One thing that is concerning me is the fear of post op nausea due to anesthesia and the fear of continued nausea and vomiting for a long time.

I experienced terrible morning sickness when I was pregnant. It continued all day for 5 months. I was sick around 20 times a day, and it was such a terrible struggle to get through each day.

I was reading in some material given to me by my doctor that said people who had morning sickness when they were pregnant had a greater chance of having post op nausea and continued nausea. No!! I really hope this is not the case. I am self pay and so worried about extra days in the hospital due to nausea.

Has anyone had terrible morning sickness, but had no nausea post vsg? Just hoping someone can reassure me.

Thanks!

It is possible to experience this - get with your doctor and have a prescription on hand and filled and waiting on you at home...also consider the Patches for motion sickness, I spoke to a lady who used those and it worked for her.

I do already have a prescription for zofran... just hoping I won't need it, or hoping at least it works! Thanks for your reply!

I have never been pregnant, so I can't comment on the morning sickness, but I did have some nausea in the hospital post-op. They were great about rotating nausea medications and when I asked for a nausea medication script they sent me home with some liquid phenergan, which works wonders, and makes it super easy to sleep.< /p>

I have some good news for you. I had horrible nausea my entire pregnancy (every day). I won't call it morning sickness because it seemed to be all day. I was sleeved on 6/5 & haven't had one bout of nausea or vomiting at all. I fully expected to have some but so far so good!

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
