Excessive Dry Mouth...w Cpap..

Recommended Posts

Absolutely play with the humidity. I see that as 100% safe, whereas playing with the pressure may not be. And there's forums just for CPAP users, and if you lurk there you will find a ton of products to help, like mask cleaning stuff that makes it feel fresh. Here's one:

Anyone else experience this?

Yes, yes and yes! I thought it was just me but every since surgery I get extremely dry mouth once or twice a night. Have not had the air pressure adjusted yet but will have it checked when I hit a 100 lb loss soon.

So Patrick how have you been doing lately anyway?

I have been the same way after surgery. My mouth is so dry in the morning. This never happened before surgery so I'm not sure if its because I lost some weight or not maybe I need to get my machine settings turned down I didn't think I would need to do that so fast.

I can definitely say that post surgery, I will sometimes wake up with my mouth completely dry -- with my tongue stuck to the roof of my mouth, etc. I know that I have a harder time keeping my mouth shut when sleeping. I've started keeping a bottle of Water next to the bed so that when I do wake up this way, I can at least "reconstitute" my mouth.

I also have had this problem after surgery. Some people have to have a chin strap. I actually had a full face mask that I had but never used but I've been using it and it helps.

I had this also, it is because your mouth is open. I am assuming you are using nasal pillows or a nose mask. Last night I broke the cycle and I used the chin strap to keep my mouth shut....No dry mouth this morning. The chin strap is like a big ace bandage that does around your chin and over your head.

If I drink at least a gallon of Water during the day I don't have this problem. The lees I drink tge worse it is.

This makes me believe it's directly related to your level of hydration.

my full face mask works well w/ a goatee --but if I forget to shave my cheeks for a couple days, it doesn't work that great...

I know this is a latecoming post ... but Patrick your photo shows you with a goatee. I can't tolerate any facial hair at all, or else I get leaks around my mask. I wish I could stop shaving and grow my beard back, but not until I get off this CPAP.

I know it's probably blasphemy, but have you considered going clean-shaven?

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
