Not Wanting To Eat Or Drink...

Recommended Posts

I had surgery July 2nd (Monday). I am having the hardest time getting anything down because I have no desire drink anything....even though my mouth is dry! All of the Protein drinks that I liked before surgery now gross me out. I've found some 2.9 oz shots that have 24 grams of Protein in them that I'm making myself use 3 times a day...but it's hard! I keep reading people who say they are dreaming of when they can start on mushies...but I'm dreading it! I don't want anything! Has anyone ever experienced this?

Focus like a laser on getting in some Water, especially with this heat. For the first week or so, my favorite Protein drinks were too sweet and just plain nasty but that gets better. The Water is the #1 most important thing right now. You have to force yourself to do it. Imagine what's left of your stomach shriveling away like a banana on the sidewalk in this heat. You don't want that right? Drink up!

chug chug chug chug chug chug!

LOL, Ok, don't chug. sip sip sip sip sip sip sip

Keep drinking your Water. Are you drinking out of a med cup (one ounce cup?) If you don't have those, try a shot glass. If you drink out of big glasses or Water bottles you tend to take in too much air and they are so bothersome.

Another thing I drank that helped me was decaff peppermint tea with a packet of Truvia in it (whatever artificial sweetener you like). It tastes good warm, but when it gets cold if it takes a while to drink it, it still tastes good. The cold decaff tea is what helped me get down colder water. It seemed room temperature at first went down better.

At 5 weeks out I still don't like drinking out of a water bottle because I get too many air bubbles.

I hate my Protein shakes that I loved 7 months previous to surgery. It's been rough. Also, with my doctor we are still on full liquids for 5 weeks and I hope Monday to be moved to purees.

Good luck, and I do know what you are going through. Good luck.

I got a strict doctor, we all should follow our doctor's advice, I do find it odd that people at 5 weeks are eating regular foods, because I don't think I could, but I would do just about anything for pureed Tuna...and a pickle :)

How much chicken broth/water did everyone drink? I'm on day 3 post and I'm not sure how often to eat. Bc I'm honestly not hungry which is great!!!

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
