Hello , first of all congrats on your loss... That's awesome..: I was advised by my doc that I can start driving after I am no longer taking pain meds and I can turn around to look behind me while seated in the car... As for sex they said 2 weeks however I say when u feel comfortable ... I would def wait at least 7 -10 days . ; ). Best of luck!!!

I waited about a week to do short distance drives to the store, etc. They usually clear you when you've been off pain meds for 36-48 hours. But my doc advised against too much driving b/c braking for a sudden stop can put a lot of pressure on the abdomen, more than you realize. Plus, it was pretty uncomfortable to sit for long periods of time for me.

Congrats on the weight loss! :)

Doc cleared me to drive the day my drain came out.

Like bee, my doctor said drive once I'm off pain meds and am comfortable turning around to back out, look in mirrors, etc. However, I've been getting light-headed occasionally, just from lack of calories and Protein, so I've chosen not to drive too much. I did drive my mom and I to my one week post-op appt but had her drive home. Yesterday I drove my car for the first time since surgery (6/25) and was fine for the hour trip back to my apartment.

My CNP told me I could have sex whenever I felt up to it, just to be mindful of my incisions. Well, at 10 days post op today, I'm actually going to see a "friend" in a bit... I'll report back! lol

I drove 2 days after surgery, a very short drive to take my daughter to school. The 3rd day after surgery I drove about half an hour on some errands. You should be fine as long as you aren't taking any pain meds.

Driving was 2 days after leaving the hospital and sex was 2 weeks later.

I have been waiting to drive, but I think I'm going to venture out on my own starting tomorrow. I feel like I'm more than capable to drive safely. As for sex I waited 7 days, I just couldn't do any more than that. Just take it easy haha.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
