3 Weeks Post-Op - Foamies/bubble In Chest? Anytime I Eat Or Drink

Recommended Posts

Hey ya'll, I was 3 weeks post op on Monday. I've had a pretty seamless recovery thus far, but here lately every time I drink or eat anything I get the foamies/excess saliva feeling. And it also feels like I have a bubble right in the middle of my chest. Which sometimes feels like it will never go away. The best way I can describe it is that I feel like I want to burp SUPER bad, but when I do, nothing come out - or I get food/liquid come up with my attempted burp (sorry for the TMI!!)

I think maybe I am eating/drinking too quick and not taking small enough bites maybe? I've been struggling with remembering the small bites an slow.... Maybe I need to go back to more milder foods? I am really struggling with wanting to eat ANYTHING right now. I should be eating 600-800 cals at this point and I am lucky if I get 350 in or so a day.

Any of you veteran sleevers out there have any input? I am also experiencing the "common" 2-3 week post-op stall, but we won't even go there! LOL Trying to keep my sanity over that one. B)

Sounds like you are ingesting too much too quickly! I have the same problem! It is extremely hard to make an ounce or two of Protein last almost 30 minutes! I tend to wolf mine down and then I feel miserable!

FYI....I can't burp since my surgery for some reason!

Thanks ladies.... I figured that's what it was. And it's making me not want to eat or drink at ALL, which is NOT a good thing!

I haven't experienced any real hunger since surgery, so I am having to force myself to eat and it's a very weird weird feeling... lol

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
