Self Esteem Issues?

Recommended Posts

Hey Everyone...

I have to say that all of my life i have had little or no self esteem, I had a bad childhood etc..And being FAT all my life didn't help much.

I am very proud of my weight loss so far..and i had noticed for a while my self esteem was moving up..Not i've pretty much hit rock bottom again..

Has anyone felt this way? Any ways of improving it?

Thanks,

~Kristen

Go shopping, buy yourself something pretty. Get your nails and toes done. I know for me when I was feeling blue I would go shop and shop in the "normal " size department, no longer in the "plus " size department, that always made me feel better. Also instead of focusing only on what the numbers on the scale say and how many pounds you have lost, sit down a write a list of all of the good things in your life that have changed since your band and the 77lbs lost, for example, more enegry, no aches and pains in your feet or back, more people notice me and comment me on my weight loss, more social etc..you get my drift. Do not let the scale dictate your success with your band NSV"s are just as important. Hang in there. :huggie:

Start treating yourself well. Do something special that you don't normally do. Get a great haircut! I've noticed your signature says that you lost 77 pounds the first year..That is quite an accomplishment. Alot of times, we don't feel that we are worth it. Whether it's something we have been told and then started to say (internally) to ourselves.

Know that it took great courage to get banded in the first place. Somewhere, deep inside, you felt that you were worth. Of course, you are going to have self-doubt. Everybody does, at one time or another. Get as much support as you can. Stay around folks that are positive and helpful in your Quest for self-confidence.

Take care, Shawn

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
