Hi,

My name is Kellie and I live in Calgary. I moved here from Texas a year and half ago with my husband and daughter who is 6.

I entered the Calgary Weight Management Program in January and got the call last Friday that I will be having surgery on July 9th.

I wasn't expecting to have surgery until September so I was in a bit of shock.

I am currently on my pre-op diet of Ensure High Protien drinks 4x a day and that is all. It is really hard right now, but only 12 days left of the intense hunger.

I hope to find some information from those of you who have been through this before.

Thanks!

Hi there!

I'm on the Optifast liquid diet for 2 weeks. This is my 8th day and the hunger feeling has subsided significantly. I did great my first day, but the second and third were the WORST! I feel for you, but hang in there, it gets better. Good luck :)

Michelle

Try not to think about the hunger so much...focus on your goal....after surgery, the liqid diet will get better....

I am also on my pre-op diet. Actually now I don't feel quite as bad. My doc has me on 2 Protein Shakes a day and a Protein and veggie dinner. It has been hard during the day but going into my 4th day it does seem to get easier. I am praying for strength over the weekend - I think that will be hardest for me. Keep up the good work and positive attitude and we will make it.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
