6 Month Supervised Diet I Am Almost Done With... Did I Mess Up?

Recommended Posts

Ok, hopefully some people who have already been approved can tell me if I have messed up here. Due to my work situation I had to schedule my days like this:

Feb 21

March 26 (34 days apart)

April 23 (28 days apart)

May 21 (28 days apart)

JUne 25 (30 days)

July 24 (29 days)

It would just be awful if I was denied on a scheduling technicality. Anyone have any insight??

This is the schedule of appointments I had for the 6 month mandatory supervised diet. Wondering if I did something here that would cause my insurance to deny it. I think I am just panicking....

Does your policy state 6 consecutive months or monthly with no less than 30 days apart? It all depends on what your policy states but your days look fine they're not gonna fall on 30 days exactly due to weekends and holidays.

Hmmm, good question. I think they have to be at least 28 days apart, but I'm sure it varies from insurance to insurance. I've got my last appointment tomorrow and then my surgeon's office should submit the paperwork. If I find out before you, I'll let you know.

This is exactly what and ALL it says about it:

  • Documentation of participation in and compliance with a physician led multidisciplinary non-surgical program of at least 6 consecutive months in duration within the past 3 years. This includes a low or very low calorie diet, supervised exercise, behavior modification, and support, with possible medication. Actual progress notes are required. Summary letters will not be accepted.

Not sure how I am suppose to accomplish "supervised exercise". I didn't so we will see what happens. And "compliance" in the diet? How do i prove that? Ya know, we PAY for insurance, it's not like we are trying to get this for free. Shouldn't be this difficult..

Yeah, it seems to be a game that insurance companies play to make sure we don't take the "easy way out." My surgeon's nutritionist had a form she used to track all this stuff, including exercise. And she asked me about specifics on what kind of exercising I was doing, how long and how often. I mean, I don't know what it proves because I can tell them anything I want.

It is ridiculous! As far as the compliance...my coordinator told me they wanted to see that I at least made an attempt to follow a diet for 6 months. I seen on a forum some where that a lady didn't lose a lb and they denied her for being non compliant with the 6 month supervised diet. I hated doing the 6 months but it will help u in the end to get rid of old habits and adopt new ones. Give it a try u can do it:)

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
