Wheezy Whispers-AKA September's Goals

Recommended Posts

I've struggled with every addiction in my life except, alcohol and drugs. But had every other one out there!! A couple months ago, I relapsed a bit with the gambling thing, but got back out of it after a couple of days, Whew!! Before I got the band, probably around my 40th birthday I decided I was not going to lie to myself anymore. I was going to face the facts, take an account of what was up, and face the truth! Since my birthday, just over a year ago, I......put myself on anti-depressents, quit gambling, allowed myself to lower my wall to the world (I am who I am), got my lap-band. It's not been easy every day, but WOW, my life is tenfold compared to a year ago. Im happy because I face the truth!! That being said, I believe thats why I only relapse at the casino a couple of days, I actually couldnt stomache it anymore. Walked out!!

My point is.....I somewhat believe the transfer is true. It's probably easier to get it together before, but if not, the band will open your eyes to the next battle! My advice to the world.....Believe in yourself, Listen to yourself, accept yourself and love yourself!!

Okay, how's that for therapy? lol...that'll be $55.00 from each of ya!!

Well I haven't talked about my second fill until now. It will be 1 week tomorrow since my second fill. I have noticed more restriction some days and some days, HOLY COW!!!, can't get much down. I had a meeting in Ottawa today, so I had Breakfast before I left. I had 1 egg and 1 piece of toast, it went down OK. I left early so that I could do a little bit of shopping, went to costco and then the St Laurent Shopping Mall. I was starved by then so I went to the food court. I walked around for a while trying to decide what I could probably tolerate. I decided on a chicken slouvaki. Grilled chicken, with a Greek salad and it was served with rice. Well... I had the first bite of chicken... then a second and then the pain started. I barely made it to the washroom. This cycle continued for about 1 hour, the slime and the pbs. I didn't know if I could make the meeting, but luckily it did subside and I was able to make it. This has never happened to me. The thoughts that were going through my head were, I did not overeat, I chewed well, so why is this happening? I could hear Dr. M saying to me that the objective was to sustain satiety for longer periods of time. I was starved before I ate, so why was this happening?

OK I've been traumatized. This was a first of many more (probably). I hope not. This would have been very embarrassing if it was a meeting that lunch was provided. I can hear myself, "I will have to be excused so that I can go slime and pb for a while". "How long? I have no idea, last time it lasted an hour." After this experience, I will be reluctant to eat before meetings.

Oh Wheezy... welcome  Yeah, you'll want to be careful eating in situations like that. If I have to, I'll order something that's easy, like Soup... I take forever to eat it, and am still eating by the time everyone else is done their 'real' meals, but I'm usually ok with it.

You might not be chewing as well as you think you are... and maybe that you were sooooo hungry, you went a little too fast, or bit a little more than you should have? You'll probably have to reevaluate everything you've taught yourself so far, and change things now that you've got some restriction!

(like me in the good old days, realizing I *COULD* eat Subway (a 6", maybe half of another = 9") {haha, yeah yeah, I know guys...} ?! I thought I was set for life... subway ALL the time! Then I got my last fill, and now can have maybe 2-3 bites of a sub). Be that as it may, I'm STILL gonna go to Quizno's when I go home for Xmas, and I'll eat a sub if it takes me all week. I miss it sooooo...

Thanks for the advice Mandi, maybe I did not chew as well as I thought. Soup it is from now on. How do you deal with if you are invited to someones home for a meal?

haha... that's funny. I haven't been! I guess I'd just take a little bit of whatever the meat is, hope and pray that its ok, maybe have some veggies or salad. Or just don't go! Claim to not be feeling too good... ?

Cloe....$55 for a session? You ARE cheap!! Hmmmmm I've heard that somewhere else about you!!!

Wheezy: Ottawa is one of my hometowns.....I loooove St Laurent Mall!!

Yeah, you maybe were hungrier than you thought so chewed quicker without realizing it (I've done that too). Until you get a "handle" on things you will have to be careful....the question about how do you handle going to someone's house for dinner? As Elmer Fudd would say, "veeeewwwwwy vewwwwwwy carefuuuuly" If you aren't "sure" you can always fake the "upset tummy" thing and not eat much (if at all)....or pretend! LOL. It won't always be like that though, so don't worry.

Maaaaaaaaaaaaaaan, I am sooooo damn fortunate....because I have read about so many folks that slime and pb for hours on end...and it sounds like you had a whoozy one wheezy! (LOL)....I have had some wicked painful "stuck" feelings (golfball?) and some slimes wherein I don't know WHERE the hell that much liquid is coming from.....BUT my saving grace is that the longest one has lasted maybe 7 minutes......so how lucky am I?!!!!!

WHEW.

Loriely: how long do your pbs (the pain and slimes etc) last for each episode?

Ya thanks Yoda!!! Actually my hubby says I'm not cheap at all, that I'm VERY, VERY, VERY expensive!!! lol

Wheezy, I'm sorry about your PB. I find that if I'm going to PB it will be because of my first bite, when I'm really hungry. Honestly, I was a VERY slow learner when it came to chewing. I know find myself chewing until there nothing left to chew, literally. I don't think I even swallow? I must, but I just chew and chew and chew.

I find that I don't eat much when I'm somewhere with someone. I usually just make a excuse like, I must have been not as hungry as I thought or my tummy feeling a bit sick, or I'm going to save some for later, something like that.

I'm also like Yoda, the most I PBed on something stuck was twice, about 2 minutes apart.

I can't be doing that for the rest of my life. It will be a challenge though... how about anyone else. Have you been invited to someone's home and have not been able to eat what was served? If so, how did you handle it? I've eating at my sister's home, she knows, so I just tell her. But what about the in-laws, friends you haven't told, people you work with etc....

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
