My surgery is august 8th in south carolina. I'm leaving SC after my post op appt on the 16th. (my post op appt and my clearance to go...)

well, theres a concert in hershey Pa friday and saturday and my boyfriend was going to get us tickets for both days. we would spend 2 nights over there...

which means drive the 10 hours from sc to pa....then saturday home to NJ (2 hours) ..... The driving isn't what im worried about...

will i be able to physically sit in the heat and watch the show...I'll be able to have my Water and hopefully my Protein shakes. It's probably going to be about 90-97 degrees ...we would do the show and probably walk around the park (no rides of course being only 1 week out from pre op) ...

Do you think i will be able to go ????

I went to a concert the week after I had surgery, but it was indoors at a club, I made sure I took my pain medicine before I left and brought Protein packs for Water incase I wanted some, I just ended up drinking a lot of Water (I wasnt there for the whole show, I only wanted to see one preformer and he did about a hour and a half set).

I guess you will just have to wait and see how you feel, I would be very careful since it will be so hot out because it is very important that soon out to have a lot of fluids so you dont get dehydrated.

It's hard to say since everyone seems to bounce back differently. I don't think I could have gone to a concert that soon out of surgery in that hot of weather without exhaustion. Your body is going through MAJOR surgery and will be in healing mode, which means it's putting all it's energy into your abdomen and won't have much to give elsewhere. At 10-14 days post op I was still having a hard time just walking for 30 minutes in cool weather, with yoga pants on. I couldn't put on anything with a button, zip, or closure for about 2-3 weeks, comfortably. Plus, just because you will have the fluids with you may or may not mean you are able to get them in. Some new tummies do fine with sips, others have a hard time getting in what their bodies need.

I think you'll know best before you go, but I'd have a back up plan of what to do if you can't. Don't push yourself and then end up back in the hospital -- IT'S NOT WORTH IT :)

I would not schedule anything for 1 week after surgery. This is major surgery, and although I had almost no pain, and felt really great, I am a little weak, tired alot right now. I guess it's normal considering major surgery and no food for the past almost two weeks. This is a time for rest, as much as possible, to let your body have the time it needs to heal. I am 11 day post op and still in need of rest time. I wouldn't push yourself to hard to fast. I am trying to get my exercise in regularly, but also my rest time as well.

You've been given some very valuable advice. As everyone has mentioned it depends on "you." If you go, hopefully you have a doting boyfriend willing to haul everything you need (even if you feel good DO NOT LIFT) like your chair, Water, etc. I think I would have had a hard time sitting up-right at that stage and I too needed to wear just yoga pants, but at the same time, I'm a teacher and was back to work 10 hours per day by then. It's so hard to say. Like Ashely said, take your pain meds - don't be a hero and wait until you are in pain.

Whatever you do #1 congrats on your surgery and #2 enjoy yourself!

I can only tell you my personal opinion and I would not do anything that soon after surgery besides walk, rest, and sip Water. The first couple of wks post op were horrible for me. Some people do great though. I went camping one month after surgery and got so sick from the heat. This is just my experience. Good luck.

It's all going to be based on how you are feeling at the time. Since surgery I've had days where I felt like I could be up for something similar, other days I've felt like a whipped dog. Just make sure you have lots of Water on hand if it's expected to be that hot like everyone else has already said. And please... if ya start feeling funny or dizzy, find somewhere in the shade to sit down, gets lots of water; and it might not be a bad idea to let someone from the event staff know you're so soon out of surgery. They can call in the paramedics who can better acess the situation.

Above all else if you do go... Have fun!

Good decision -- you never know, but it is really hard to anticipate the fatigue you will feel. I am 2 weeks out and just had to send my daughter as her dad's date to our scheduled lady antebellum concert.

I sure wouldn't plan anything like that so soon. My instructions were to not ride in a car over an hour without getting out and walking around due to clotting. That in itself would be a big deterrent.

Hello,

I want to have my surgery with Dr. Rod in Mexico, but what is something happens who will take care of any issues that may come up? By the way I live in Houston, this is one of my major worries.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
