My Drain Is The Only Pain...anyone Else?

Recommended Posts

My drain is making me crazy!! I have not had pain anywhere else but my drain site is more and more painful each day and appears to have some sort of mucous-y stuff around it. My doc's office said they would call me back yesterday and still haven't heard from them.

Has anyone else had this happen? Is this normal? Eeek!

My drain was a pain. Definitely!!!!!!

I had surgery on June 4th too and they took it out on the 13th and on the 12th I knew it was infected. It's normal that the body attack the foreign object, but I also have Lupus so my cells went even crazier.

After I got it out, I made sure I put neosporin on it daily and a light bandage across it and I change it after I shower every day. I like to let it air a little bit while I'm drying off and dry my hair then I put a light piece of gauze on it. I would call their offices again today. You had surgery on the 4th too, and it should be healing a bit. Mine had green and yellow gunk coming out and it's starting to dry out now.

i guess I was really lucky. My surgeon doesn't didn't use drains of any kind! I had absolutely no problems. I can sympathize, though!! That would be miserable! Good luck to all!

make an mimi messenger bag out of twine and a plastic shopping bag (or if u have a mini messenger better yet), and throw your bubble in it it keeps you from having to use much tape...

don't forget to keep the vaccum in it!

I hated my drain & felt so much better once it was gone. I had some thick mucous type stuff too but I think that is normal, it is basically the hole trying to heal but the moving of the drain keeps ripping it. Just hang in there & it will be out before you know it. Once its gone the relief is instant (it was for me anyway).

My drain came out the day after surgery but while in it was easily one of the more painful things.

Didn't feel a thing when it came out tho.

OMG- I HATED my drain. Such a pain in the ass. I was told that if there was mucousy stuff coming out at the site that it was normal. I got mine out 9 days post op and I was so glad to have it out. I did still have pain for a few days afterwards at the drain site but it got better.

I had my sleeve the 11th & just went to see my surgeon for my 9-10 day check-up . My drain site started bothering me about 4 days ago . I kept having this stinging -sore type feeling . It was all red & angry & had a lot of yellow discharge . He looked at it said it was completely normal that my body was just wanting it out . I did have it pulled & I never want to go through that feeling or sensation ever again . Just hang tough ...it will be out soon :)

I think I got lucky - my doctor doesn't use the drain at all either. I'm glad judging by the posts above!

I had surgery on the 14th and my drain came out two days later. It closed already and doesn't bother me. I do think that doctors shouldn't let people go home with drains. it's uncomfortable.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
