Wanted to introduce myself! I am post op 1 week today.

Had my surgery in Mexico with Dr Ponce de leon.

Feeling great. One concern is one of my incisions leaks -alot.

It is yellowish blush color

It does not smell

The incision area is not red.

I do not have a fever.

I feel really good.

I am told by all signs that it is okay.

Has anyone else experienced this? Is it normal/okay? Will it stop soon?

Should i worry if it doesn't slow down?

Thank you!

Did you have a drain? If so, was it in this incision?

i had a drain at the hospital for 2 days.

Leak test was fine.

It is not the drain incision.

It is the main incision (above my belly button)

I am told this is where the stomach comes out.

Thank you again!

I experienced the same as you with the exact same incision area. I did exactly as told, remove the first bandage the day after I came home from the hospital, and then remove the 'steri strips' from all the incisions a week after that. At first I used a regular band-aid (not the one with antibiotic in the center pad) to cover the center incision because it was slightly leaking and it kept in that same condition for two weeks, off and on. I decided to keep the band-aid off and use a cotton towel to cover my stomach area underneath my shirt so that my incisions would be able to 'breathe' without any covering. They healed fine after that. Hope this helps somewhat :)

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
