Anyone Have Cigna?

Recommended Posts

Does anyone have Cigna as their insurance carrier? How long did you have to wait before getting approved? Are they decent to deal with? I've heard horror stories about some insurance companies.

I have Cigna. I'm just starting to put my paperwork in for approval- it seems like they are pretty good, as long as you meet all requirements. I hope they are fast- I'm very impatient! Good luck to you!

I have Cigna and was approved for surgery. It was a bit of a process and I was denied once, but they did finally approve. With Cigna, you have to have a BMI >40 or >30 with another co-morbid condition. You are required to undergo six months of nutrition/weight loss conseling with a certified nutritionist or program. You need a letter of medical necessity from your primary care physician, including a statement (and this was my hold up) that you are medically cleared by him/her for surgery. A meeting with a psycologist clearing you mentally. Evaluation by surgeon with description of procedure to be done. The bariatric coordinator for the medical system helped me with all of this.

Good luck!

Tracey

I have Cigna, my BMI was 52. I had no other health problems. It took me a long while, I mean a long while, they usually wait the thirty days to give you a reply, even got denied once. I had to jump through many hoops such as the six month weight loss, nutrition class, psych testing, counseling, etc. Good luck.....

Thank you for the information. I guess I should work on being patient :) I thought I had read somewhere that Cigna changed to a 3 month program, maybe not though. Good luck to you!!

My surgeons office told me yesterday that within the last month or so they are now requiring 3 months supervised diet instead of 6. So you are right! :) It will make it faster for sure!

As of May 15, 2012, CIGNA now requires a 3 month supervised diet instead of 6. That will speed it up! Ahh, I wish I had CIGNA!!

I have Cigna. I was one of those that had to do 6 month diet. But after I did everything they asked, it was pretty quick for approval. I had an H.M.O within Cigna and had approval by them in about a week. My surgeon said they wouldn't have even let me see him if they weren't serious about approving my surgery. So I already knew after I finished my 6 month diet and they approved my first consult with my surgeon it was all good!!!

I'm now 7 weeks post op

Good Luck to you!

I have Cigna and it took exactly 5 business days and I was approved on the first try. I think it all depends on your insurance coordinator and if they know what exact paperwork they need to submit.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
