Hi everyone. Just wanted to say hello and introduce myself. My name is Emily- I'm in the first stages of qualifying through my insurance. I have Cigna and I am completing my 6 month supervised diet this month- (which I found out today that Cigna has very recently changed that from 6 months to 3 months). My psyc eval is done, my regular MD is preparing my surgery clearance and recommendation- so after all that I'll be set. Then the waiting game begins! Anyone else have good advice for qualifying quick and smooth through Cigna?

I just got approved by Cigna a few weeks ago (after doing the 6 mos with a dietician). My papers were submitted and I was approved all in 6 working days. As long as you have all the right papers submitted it should be easy and quick. My approval is good for 6 months which is helpful because it allowed me a little more flexibility in planning for my time off from work. I'm now scheduled for surgery Aug 13th....soooo nervous now, I wish it were sooner. Good luck!!! I'll keep my fingers crossed for you.

Welcome, Emily! I have Cigna also, so I'm trying to get all my little duckies in a row for approval. I'm looking at a early to mid August date, timed perfectly to be off for the start of school (Those times are hard to get off at my job). Anyway, welcome to the forum, and GOOD LUCK!

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
