Finally Tried It

Recommended Posts

So I've been pretty scared to try the elliptical. I've heard it referred to several times on here as a "helliptical" LOL. Yesterday though, when I was meeting with my PT, I asked her to show me how to do it, and it was surprisingly easy to work. Of course, I only lasted 3 minutes on it and thought I would die. I can do 2 miles on the treadmill now in under a half hour, but this thing killed me. Today though I made it 5 mins :) I like to think that if I switch up my cardio machines, it will help me break this stall that I'm in, so I'm adding that now to my work outs. Usually I will do 2 miles on the TM and 2 miles on the rec bike. Now I'll just keep adding more mins to my elliptical. Does anyone have any advice if thats a good thing to do? Or should I only use one machine at a time?

I love the elliptical, but I've found it really helps if it is hydraulic, making it easier on your knees, and a smoother workout. I've found that Precor brand are always good.

I love it. I'm an "addictical" now! (i think I made that up;) ) I started at 3 minutes--cursed the thing to hell---then next time I made it like.....FIVE minutes, then six. I've added one minute every time I go to the gym (almost every time). Now the most i've done is 45 minutes, and I do little "sprints" when a really good song comes on, and get my heart rate up several different times during the workout. My minimum goal for a workout is 2 miles and 200 calories. The rest is gravy in my mind.

Just bite off a liiiiiittle more each time. You'll start to look forward to it!!

MK, Like Dooter said, start slow and low and add a little time each time. I love the elliptical now and I sure didn't think I'd be saying that when I started on it! Yes, you should change up what you're doing for cardio, maybe switch between the elliptical and the bike or between using a machine and walking/jogging. It uses different muscles,, which is great for helping you tone as well. :)

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
