Well I'm home from the hospital, 2 days post-op now and for some odd reason I'm paranoid that I'm doing something wrong. I've had very little pain since I woke up in recovery, only nausea I had was while in recovery. I've also been doing a respectable job of sipping and getting some broth in, along with some Jello and a 1/2 cup of creamy Soup. I've been up and walking pretty well, although I do feel a bit on the weak side.

So now I'm wondering if I'm doing something wrong, especially since I've read so many posts before about how miserable the first few days can be but I'm not experiencing that all. I was also a bit shocked to find that in the hospital, my blood pressure went to normal virtually over night and the hospital hadn't given me anything to control the BP. Can it really stabilize that fast?

So, am I nuts here or is something not right? I'm so so so thrilled to finally be on the loser's bench finally though!!

Nope you're fine. I had zero pain and no trouble taking in liquids like you. One night stay in the hospital and was back to work on day 2. Just took it easy while things healed up

Your experience sounds similar to mine. I never experienced the shoulder pain everybody talks about after surgery. I just had some esophageal spasms, but other than that I was up and walking the halls of the hospital with no pain. My high bp disappeared pretty quickly too. Within two weeks my doctor pulled me off my bp meds because my bp actually went too low and I was getting extremely lightheaded. I've heard of diabetics coming off their meds before they leave the hospital. It's the marvel of modern medicine!

Try not to overthink it,,everyone is different. It sounds like things are going perfectly for you. I don't know how long it takes to stabilize bp but you must be doing something right. It could be due to the strict diet you're on and the rest that your bp is under control. With a continued lifestyle change, no doubt it will be so much better. Congrats and welcome to the losers bench!

Be glad you are one of the ones for whom it's smooth sailing. I think we are all different and the ways our bodies react to surgery is different from person to person. My surgery was on June 4th and for the most part things have been pretty good, can't say that I'm pain free, but it's doable. I had a 2 liter blood loss during my surgery so much of my general weakness may still be related to that issue.

Glad to know something isn't wrong with me then! I may have to consider going to my doctor earlier than I anticipated for the blood pressure meds I'm on - I wouldn't want it to get too low, especially if the numbers are close to what they should be now.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
