I am forcing a little Protein a day in. At 10 days out I was able to get in 1 ounce of yogurt 5 hours ago and still don't think I can handle any Protein Shake. I read bean and bacon Soup blended but I am supposing that is something to wait until pureed stage? 5 weeks of liquid, I can't figure out what to have that won't give me extreme and violent gas pains. I literally had a few teaspoons of cheddar broccoli soup with no chunks in it and the pain in my shoulder and under my ribs felt like a heart attack. I'm actually scared to have soup. I bought cream of asparagus (probably too gassy), cream of chicken and mushroom (low fat healthy ones). I've been existing on a few ounces of Protein Drink and Water and peppermint tea. I would like to add things, but until this gas gets under control, I will have to just save up things I want until I'm okay enough to have them.

I'm a chef, too. Am cooking ALL the time.....Cook a big ole' pot of homemade Soup or a white bean chili, then puree it with some sour cream and cheese. That's what I did....made a couple of Soups, then pureed them and 'drank' it out of a cup. Even chicken noodle, black bean, hell, Campbell's Bean with Bacon was good pureed when you're desperate for some flavor <_<

Also did that with regular chili....just pureed the hell out of it. This is the worst stage...your body and mind just want to EAT because you know you can't. It's a real mental game....and a life-changer. I had a harder time than I thought I would for the first few weeks....I just wanted to EAT so bad.

But, six weeks to a few months down the road, you'll look back and realize it wasn't hard...you just have to get over the mental hurdle that we can't turn to food anymore when we're bored, tired, etc.

At just 1 week??? I was on Clear Liquids,,pureed came later during mushie week.

I am 1 week post op and have been doing really well on liquids. I tried some mushy food last night, just a bite or two and was fine. What would the problem be skipping to something other than liquid sooner than my dr recommended? I'm thinking like a little chili without Beans or some slow cooked chicken, very soft and moist

Try to stick with the plan best as you can..you can do this! Wow, a chef..I'd be planning menus for future meals :) Lucky...

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
