Syncope, Possible Seizure

Recommended Posts

Yesterday I got to work and meeting with 2 coworkers and I stood up from my chair and that's the last thing I remember. I got cold, clammy, diaphoretic and from their accts I clinched my jaws, my pupils were fixed & dilated and I was completely unresponsive. They're nurses, so they tried to get some sugar down me, then checked my blood pressure - I didn't have one. They put me in the floor with my feet above my head and called 911. By the time the ambulance got there (10 mins) I was coming around. They did all kinds of scans & tests and all was normal. I have an appt with my surgeon this morning. I'm terrified of this happening again! If I'd been alone or driving, I would have died. They checked my blood sugar and it was like really low even after them pouring sugar down me. I had no warning signs, no weird feelings or anything. I'm 26 days post op. I have an hour to drive to dr and I'm praying this doesn't happen again. I had bfast already and I'm going to sip on some juice. At this point, my safety is more important than not drinking sugar filled juices :(

Anyone else have this happen? It was scary!

I suffered from syncope even before surgery - it sounds to me like your bp was low and when you stood your heart rate dropped, and then you dropped. Normally when either your bp or your heart rate drop, the other rises to compensate. When that doesn't happen you pass out. According to my cardiologist dehydration is the most common cause.

Let us know what your surgeon says!

Never had this. I'm so sorry to hear. Is there no one who can drive you today?

No... Everyone is working today - where I should be as well! :(

My Doctor's nurse is saying 1) I'm not drinking/eating enough 2) Dehydration 3) hypoglycemia 4) It's okay to drink full strength apple juice if I'm not able to eat and that my health is more important than sticking to a strict "no sugar" regimen. 5) Never ever ever go as long as I did without taking in something - even if I'm not feeling great.

Sounds like "dumping syndrome" in the worst form. I experience some of this myself - passed out completely and came to on the floor with a busted lip! Someone on here told me the symptoms and that it was alimentary hypoglycemia. I researched it and it IS possible in some VSG patients even though VSG is tauted as not having this. Since your Blood sugar was extremely low sounds like that - carbs going from stomach to intestine too quickly. I cut WAYYY back on my carbs and upped Protein and no incidences since then. Have your Dr. check it out. Glad you are okay!

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
