Hi I came home yesterday from my June 8 procedure and I am doing ok, except for getting out of bed. Every time I get up I feel as if I am ripping myself a new stomach...I know it hurts more as my meds fade, but any advice for getting in and out of bed? Thanks in advance!

I had to roll to my side first and slowly push myself up using only my arms and not my stomach. A couple times I remember just kind of rolling off the bed until my feet were down, then start to stand up. It will get better.

I remember keeping my right leg straight and carefully doing the climbing out with my left leg.

I was like Raven, roll on my side and use my arms to get up. It was only for the first few days so hang in there!

I sleep propped up a little with pillows and grab under my knees, push back, and straighten my legs to rock myself into a sitting position. I'm strange though lol

Start using your legs to scoot yourself around. It is a lot less painful on your tummy. :)

I swear it gets better! I was sleeved 6/4. I had the same thought of "OH CRAP!" when getting in and out of bed. All of a sudden today (1 week post-op) there is zero pain. I'm amazed and grateful that i am healing well. Now if only I can sleep on my tummy......:-)

Im still sleeping propped up so I don't have as far to lean forward in the morning. It gets easier everyday (6 days out). Can't wait to be able to bend over though, that's my vice right now!

Exhale as you get up!! My nurse told me that when I was in for surgery. Totally helps and I still use it since I still have some pain.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
