Eating While Travelling

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone,

I'm a newbie who just got sleeves on May 29th. I had my ups and downs but am recovering well.

I actuall flew in from Turkey in the Middle East to do the surgery in the US. Well, since all is okay so far, I'm planning to fly back home in a few days. The only issue is that it's over 10 hours in the plane.

I'm finishing off my liquid diet phase and will enter my purée phase in a few days. The challenge would be what to eat when I'm on the plane. I'm thinking of packing a Protein Powder packages. Maybe having a small Gerber baby food jar. Don't know what TSA will let me take with me on board.

Any suggestions or experiences would be greatly appreciated.

I'm not sure about international travel, although we have a couple of people who travel overseas regularly for work and have posted about that here. I know that Michell at The World According to Eggface blogged about what she takes with her when travelling. Perhaps a peek into her blog would help you figure out what you should take. IIRC, she carries a Blender Bottle and baggies of Protein powder, along with a couple of Protein Bars, but look at the blog post for specifics. :) She's a great resource for WLS patients. :)

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
