Hurting....when Does It End?

Recommended Posts

I was just sleeved on Tuesday, May 29th. I am just a couple of days out, but boy oh boy do I hurt. I feel like I have been beat in my abdomen, then set on fire! It is bearable most of the time, but getting up from sitting position or sitting from a standing position is excruciating. I have also had a couple of coughing fits that REALLY hurt, as did the ride home from the hospital today on our crappy Tennessee highways. How long til the majority of this pain subsides? food is the least of my worries. I just want to feel crappy. Please share.

You will get there! Around week 4 something changes and you start to feel like to old you, but skinnier.

A couple of weeks honey. I had the same problem and ended up calling the nurse. She was a bit griff in her response. "do you realize they jammed metal rods through your fat belly?". Geesh! But it did sink in that there was serious trauma done to our abdomen. This too shall pass!

It took about 5 weeks for the pain to subside. I am a little over 2 months out and I've lost about 34 pounds so far. In my case It still hurts to eat, especially if I don't chew my food properly or if I eat to fast. Hang in there it will get easier.

I was 4 weeks post-op yesterday...for me, most of the pain you are talking about subsided about 7 - 10 days out....there still was pain, but then it was so much less, and then just keeps getting better and better every day... I still have to "eat slow, chew lots, take small bites" or my new stomach cramps up terrible....hope this helps..

It does get better... Healing hugs sent your way...

pain continues for a few weeks but, the terrible "what did I do" pain was only a week. You are getting there. Just take it easy.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
