Well it's almost time for my sleeve. Ive been calm and excited since I started my journey but yesterday a post on this site almost mas my heart stop. I know this is a forum to help out with people's experiences and touching bad th what to expect. I appreciate everyone on here's opinion. I quickly messages two of my closest sleeve pals and they were quick to calm me down and tell me to ask my doctor before jumping to conclusions. I was really shaky and felt horrible for the day. This morning I woke up still shaky. I decided to go to the park and wall it off. I've kept Myself busy and has done the trick except thy the days are flying by. I haven't eaten much and I think it's still the nerves. I don't know how to move on from this. Any suggestions.

Well ... what was the post that almost made your heart stop? Kinda hard to talk you down from the ledge if we don't know which ledge you're on :)

This is a big step and one not to be taken lightly, for sure. You should be scared if your not scared ... a little.

It was a post about the sleep study. My pulmonologist offered it but didn't require it for me to be cleared by him. The post mentioned that we can die if we don't get it done. I know that there are always risks when having surgery but I saw my life flash before my eyes. I saw me going into the hospital and not coming out.

Hmmm ... There are always risks in surgery, but dying because of not having a sleep study done ... I feel pretty confident putting that at zero percent. The reason I can say this is you are intubated (A tube is stuck down your thoat, but don't worry, you're asleep) to keep you breathing throughout the procedure. You have an anesthesiologist right there monitoring everything including your oxygen levels.

You'll be fine.

Thank you. I just can't get it out of my head. Surgery is in Monday. I know this is what I need and want. Just can't get it off my mind.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
