Not Ready For Protein Shakes - What's A Newbie To Do?

Recommended Posts

I'm trying so hard to get into stage to. I can't do the Protein shakes. The ones I have (Chike and Unjury) taste good but after drinking them I get nauseous and a case of the runs. Because I don't tolerate milk will a friend suggested I try Lactaid. I haven't been nauseous since my two day stay in the hospital and now I'm nauseous. Ugh!

My doctor suggested I try the Isopure Zero Carb clear drinks to get my Protein in an next week try to re-introduce the shakes. So here is where I need your help?

I've ready so many bad things about the taste of Isopure clear drinks. Can someone who has had a good experience suggest a flavor? I'm usually a fruity girl (cherry, strawberry etc;)? I'm headed our to Vitamin Shoppe and a case of 12 is 46.99. That's a lot of money for me to get something I don't like.

Thankies!!

:D :D :D:rolleyes:

Sorry if you got a partial message from me - I wanted to look up a price for you.

I have found something called WonderSlim online. 7 packets are 12.99. I have the Cran-Grape and the the berry Blend. They have been going down very well.

I have been having bouts of nausea since my surgery 6 days ago. I have found I need to sip very slowly. No more than a small sip every two minutes or so. As long as I do that I have been keeping the nausea at bay.

I just went to the Vitamin shoppe to try out a few flavors , ( I'm post op) and wanted to get an idea which ones I liked , I got the alpine punch and the green apple...they taste ok def not your reg sugary Fruit drinks but I think it serves it's purpose considering the high Protein , it tastes like a weak crystal light drink ...someone had suggested to add a little crystal light powder to it to increase the flavor!? I thought that was a good idea...before u buy a case of anything , they sell indivual ones , try that first .=)

Do they let you mix and match the case?

The Vitamin shoppe near me only sells cases of one flavor...but as someone else mentioned, they do sell individual bottles (they're in the refrigerated area). I like alpine punch. Not the best, but tolerable and even if I only drink half it's still a lot of Protein. I'd recommend buying a few diff flavors (incl the apple and the punch), taste them in the car, and go back in for a case if you can stand one :)

The Isopure Zer Carb isn't horrible- just dope it with extra crystal lite and it's kinda good!

You should be able to buy angles of it in their refrigerated section- if not, they have a great return policy. Often ther staff will let you try things before buying too.

Oh and check their website- last week they had a 20% off coupon online

I like grape frost. Taste's like a grape popsicle. I dont like the alpine punch. I would buy a couple individual bottles at GNC or Vitamin Shoppe first before buying a whole case. I bought some online that come in 8 oz bottles that come in six packs. They're the perfect size.

I like cytosport, whey isolate clear drink. I got it at the Vitamin Shoppe - the tropical flavor is good with a slightly tart taste. I actually like these better than Isopure. My surgery isn't until next week but I'm planning on using these to get my Protein in for the first few weeks, don't think I can handle the thickness of the shakes until about 3 weeks out.

Didn't make to the store so I read another post to mix the Protein powder with Water. Duh! It went down well no nausea. The shake wasn't as creamy but I loaded it down with ice and I was able to finish it without incident. Yayyy!

Sad thing is I'm not ready for milk. So no pudding either. Sniff

I did have some awesome loaded potato Soup that I pureed with chicken broth. I felt like this was my very first tasted of real food. It went down well too. A little too well. I had to remember to pace myself and slow down while eating.

I'm going to have 4 more ounce tonight and put some unflavored Protein Powder in it.

I like grape frost & pineapple banana the best. They still have an aftertaste to me, but I can tolerate it. I usually mix 1/2 a bottle in a water bottle with 1/2 Water & crystal light to lessen the aftertaste somewhat. I also found that room temperature is better than cold, at least for me and the aftertaste.

Oh - and I've always done my regular Protein Drink with Water instead of milk. I'm glad that seemed to work for you.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
