Ugh Guilty... But Why?

Recommended Posts

Ok so I'm doing my prep diet and yes I'm hungry but I keep on doing it right so why do I feel guilty when I eat my one meal a day? I not eating bad I'm staying in my guide lines. I'm also a but nervous becaus I had my consultion at the beginning of April and I had to go back to work after maternity leave and life has been crazy and stressful. So I stepped on the scale the morning of day 1 an I had gained nearly 10lbs ugh I guess that's why I am feeling so guilty. Any advice surgery is schedule for June 5th so a little over a week. I am just worried that I'm not doing every thing possible to loose the weight plus a little more. Am I the only one feeling this way?

I am allowed only three shakes a day plus sugar-free Jello or popsicles. I feeling guilty if I want a sugar-free popsicle, that I'm allowed to have, so I haven't had one.

I'm even more depressed because yesterday I had all three shakes, no sugar-free popsicle and I drank all my Water and I weighed myself this morning after I pooped (I even worked out two hours on the gazelle yesterday) and I went from 233 - 233.5 today LOL! I feel you ks, I seriously am feeling you and surgery here is June 4th.

Don't be a slave to the scale, it will be okay I promise you, we'll get through this together and the scale will eventually go in the right direction. Your body is probably holding onto the calories because it is hitting starvation mode, which it only stays that way for a short-time and then you will end up with a nice drop. Even try making your one meal a day at lunch instead of dinner. Make sure you are getting all your Water in too.

My sister is on her liquid diet too and having this issue. This is day 7 and she says her scale is not reflecting her efforts. She has not had solid food in a week, has had some nausea and weakness but otherwise okay. Surgery is June 1. A week from today. She is upset because they scale doesnt seem to show much weight loss and she is retaining Fluid bad. Her ankles are swollen and she wakes up with swelling in her face and hands too. I think her body just wants to hold on to the fluid right now but will let go of it when it wants too. Dont get discouraged over the scale. The weight loss will show up in time, it has to!

Forensic, I can understand why your sister is depressed, but it will have to go off eventually, she may need to walk a little more to get her legs and hands going to move the fluids around. I have a serious issue with edema. I stop my Water pills on Monday for the last week of the journey and I'm just planning on upping my Water intake and walking even more.

I realize the weight fluctuation throughout the day is weird and it bums me a bit, I'm realistic, you can't go down to 600 calories a day and actually not end up losing weight, it just may be redistributing at first and will eventually drop :)

I had edema and used Water pills, but the surgeon took me off them the day of surgery and said I didn't need them any more. I was sleeved April 23rd and have had no swelling at all since then.

She has some Water pills but has been afraid to take them. I guess it wouldnt hurt for a few days to get some of the Fluid off.

Remember, the reason for the pre Op diet is to shrink your liver, not just to lose weight. Just keep following your diet plan from your dr and everything will be fine. You'll have your surgery and be losing soon.

Your body is more than likely rebelling. Now it's is 'starvation mode' and holding on to EVERYTHING you put in it. Just do exactly what your NUT tells you (and call her if you're worried, that's what she's there for) it'll all work out fine if you just do what your told.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
