11 Days Post-Op And Scale Says I Gained 3 Pounds!?!?!?!

Recommended Posts

I am a little upset and a little miffed. I had not weighed myself in four days, so this morning I got on the dang scale and it indicated that I gained 3 pounds! I don't understand, and I know I shouldn't be focusing on the weight right now, but I can't help but be upset. I am still on full liquids and have been living on ice pops, brothy Soups and Unjury Protein Shakes. Does anyone know what's going on?? I think I am doing the right things...

Swelling, gas and your body is now holding onto Water. I suggest walking a little more and weighing yourself tomorrow. I can gain 3 or 4 pounds in a day and lose 5 the next day even pre-surgery. Keep sipping and I understand your frustration, I am expecting this to happen to me too, but it will be gone in no time and then the pounds will drop. It happens to almost everyone. It seems to me that this is the norm. Losing immediately after surgery is rare. Just keep doing what your doctor says and it will come off.

I hope someone reminds me of this when I freak out after surgery after I gain. I know it's going to happen because I've read so much on it, it still will have me upset too.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
