Normal To Have More Pain 12 Days After Surgery?

Recommended Posts

I woke up this morning with lots of pain on my left side, much more than I have had since first having surgery. I thought I was getting a little bit better everyday until whammy this happened and it feels like I'm back to day one or two. I had surgery 5/4/12, so it's been 12 days.

Is this normal or has anyone else had this happen?

Two things I did different yesterday..... a lot more walking (went to the movies in the mall and it was a long walk) and started Prilosec for bad reflux.

Any info you might have or experienced would really help, I'm kinda freaking that I did something to myself. Isn't it past the time leaks and things happen?

Yes, I had pain almost 2 weeks out when I overdid it one day. If you use pain meds and cannot bring it below a 6 or so, go to the ER. Better safe than sorry.

I was sleeved 4/24/12 & had more pain after I started sleeping in bed last Saturday night. I slept in the recliner for weeks & it killed my hip. I started walking harder/faster & that hurt my left side more too & just felt more sore all over. We still need to take it easy. Good luck!! : )

Thanks so much for your help. Relating your experiences makes me feel so much better..... I must have done too much yesterday. It still hurts like a mother, so I'm babying myself until it goes away.

Eventhough it was good...... at this point I'm not sure going to see "The Avengers" was such a good idea...... although during the movie I was feeling pretty good looking at all that beefcake. LOL

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
