Recommended Posts

Dr. C,

I had my band put on 6/16/06. Had complications from swelling had to be put back in hospital 4 days later. After that doing well until 7/24. Can't have solids until the evening. Asked the doc he said it is swelling and I need to do liquids for Breakfast and lunch and very light dinner. He said I am not dealing well with stress and this happens . Is this true, will this go away with time or everytime I stress will I be back to liquids. I had real bad stress wed. and had liquids all day. It has been crazy. Please leet me know .;)

Hi Julissa, I'm not Dr. C, but yes, stress will do that.

Your doc gave you good advice. If you've had a fill, you might need an unfill. If you aren't filled, you will just need to stay on liquids and have a light dinner as your doc as recommended.

Some folks respond to added stress by getting tighter, others find they get loser. I know that cortisol makes me much tighter.

If you haven't had a fill, you might just have to lose weight before you find your band giving you more leway.

Good luck, and keep us posted!

Julissa,

It's hard to say, you might still have a little swelling but 10 weeks later that should pretty much be gone. Have you had an upper GI?

Well when I was put back in the hospital 4 days after the band was put on they checked to make usre there was no liquid in the band and it was empty, I got two days of nexium and other items via IV to get me back on track. As I said I was doing well until Ireturned to work. Ithen got a promotion and that's when I really couldnt get stuff down just liquids. So you recommend an upper GI? Would that show there is swelling - what would I be looking for??? Thanks for your help, my PCP has no clue about the band and I would be guiding him. Thanks again!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
