Phantom Gall Bladder Attacks?

Recommended Posts

For those of you who had your gall bladders out - with, or before banding - and had serious gall stone attacks...

Do you get phantom ones?

I had my gall bladder out 15 years ago - well before surgery. about every 3-4 years, I get a phantom attack - feels exactly the same as passing a gall stone - the pain is enormous :/

I'm curious if this is everyone, or just me.

YES, absolutely! In fact, mine are about once a year. No one can explain it that I have asked (dr's.) I thought perhaps some of the stones slipped through the gb and were floating around making me sick at times. In fact, I was hospitalized about 3 mo's after original surgery almost 10 years ago with the SAME EXACT pains. They rushed me in and stuck this tube down my throat and sucked more out that had passed through GB. I think more are in there....

I had my gallbladder out about 5 yrs ago . Less than 3 months after having my youngest son . About a month post op I started having phantom attacks and I SWORE They didn't take my gallbladder out .

After going back and going back to the doc he finally asked me " are you on a diet " I told him yes, He told me to avoid eating a lot of lettuce or other roughage several days in a row . And in fact at that time I was on Weight Watchers and eating a salad almost every day , several times a day . Apparently ( according to my doc) with no gallbladder your body can not process the roughage as quickly out of your system , and that is why the attacks . SO If i avoid lettuce and roughage on a regular basis I seem to be OK. But if i eat a Salad say 3 days in a row I'll have them almost every time.

They hurt like hell and I swear I'm going into labor because that's what they feel like to me.

Mindy

PS Im not banded yet if that helps too .

Thanks for the responses.

Roughage wasn't my problem; actually, I'd had some pretty serious dental work done that morning and hadn't eaten anything but mashed taters and my meds lol.

It's nice to know it's not just me tho ;)

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
