Going To Mx 5/28 And Have Question

Recommended Posts

I am scheduled with Dr Ortiz for 5/28. I've told family & close friends only and just started thinking I should probably tell "work"/boss? Did u guys tell ur boss? Were their any ramifications from medical plan if you went outside for medical procedure?

That is a personal choice. I'm telling very few people because I've learned that a lot of people view this very negatively. As for insurance, your plan may cover NOTHING, including complications, so you need to be aware and informed on that.

You don't have to tell anyone anything! Read my blog as I talk about this and why I didn't tell anyone. Still today (sleeved on 1/17/12) the only people I have told is my sister, husband and two friends that live in other states. It's your business. If you want people to know tell them, if not, don't. Make the right decision for yourself.

Hi there! Congrats on your decision! I had my surgery with Dr. Ortiz on April 16th and I could not be happier! I live in PA and flew in on Sunday. My surgery was the next day and I had no issues at all.. no gas, no nausea, very little pain, nada.. It was an amazing experience and you will be taken care of very well!! I flew home on Friday because I wanted to have an extra day in San Diego. Plus, I took a week off from work and was in no rush to get back. I work from home but I could have easily went in to work at an office.. I felt great after surgery and I still feel great today!!

All the best!!

Ooops.... I failed to answer your question.... Yes. I told my boss that I needed to have surgery.. She didn't ask what kind and I didn't tell her...... So.... your call..... I have told very few people because the weight loss isn't dramatic.. I am losing slow which is what I wanted.. Losing 7-10 lbs per month is the pace that i want to keep. So far so good!!

I'm pretty sure that as per HIPPA regulations are not required to disclose any personal medical issues with anyone inside your place of employment. You can tell them if you want but I'm pretty sure you don't have to.

I told my supervisor that I was having surgery but didnt say what it was. But before I told her, I put in all of my FMLA paperwork. She didnt ask me what it was for and I don't plan to offer up that information because by law, I am not required to do so

Hi,

Like so many people have said this really is a personal thing. This is

ALL about you and I personally would NOT tell my boss. Pick a few close people who you think will be supportive. As time goes on and you feel comfortable then you can share this information with other.

I wish you great success. Do NOT be shocked if some of the people you think will be supportive are not.

Take care,

Suzanne

I had surgery in Novemeber of 08. I started by telling just a few friends and co-workers, including my boss, who I had a close relationship with. I told my coworkers (there were a total of 8 of us who worked together) just before I had the surgery, mainly because I knew my eating habits would be so obviously different when I came back to work, and we all ate lunch together as a group.

As far as post op complications: if you are having your surgery in Mexico, I assume your insurance did not cover bariatric surgery, so most will not cover any complications that can be directly related to your surgery. Be sure that you have someone lined up at home to follow you post op, whether it is a local bariatric surgeon (you will ususally have to pay a "transfer fee"), a general surgeon, or your primary care doctor. There are lab results that need to be monitored about every 6 months for the first 2 years, then yearly after that, especially if you are having the sleeve or bypass. Be sure you are compliant with your Multivitamins, B12, and Calcium post op. Best of luck!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
