I'm sorry but this Jp drain is coming out tomorrow and I couldn't be happier!!!!!! It is so tender and I can't move an inch without it hurting! Can somebody tell me what to expect when the drain come out? Does it hurt worse than it already does?

OK the feeling is so hard to explain. Mine was very uncomfortable like yours. I mean miserable. If it got touched once it hurt do bad. I personally thought it was a very odd uncomfortable borderline painful thing

It really isn't painful, but it still kind of is. Just breath out when they r doing it..good luck...u will b able to relax do much once it is out :)

It doesn't hurt just uncomfortable. Just keep breathing the whole time. The sensation surprised me and I accidentally held my breath.

Because mine flipped, it was the worst pain I have even experienced. It is rare that it flips through...just my luck. I would ask if they can give pain meds before hand. Most people say it just feels weird. It takes about a less than 30 sec to get it out.

It didn't hurt at all to come out and I felt 100x better with that literal PAIN out! Lol mine was also very sore when it was in and I has almost instant relief when it was removed.

Silly question, but what is a drain?

its an abdomen drain with a tube that drains excess Fluid after surgery into a ball dangling by your side. Youtube it....JP Drain

I didn't have any pain when my drain was removed. It was more like that sinking sensation from a roller coaster and it was over in a second. :)

I guess I was one of the fortunate ones that didn't have a drain... Good luck.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
