Nice one Scotty' date=' good luck with your appt.

A question for the post sleevers. Do you drink alcohol? How often? What do you drink? How much can you drink?

Thanks in advance[/quote']

I will be 5 weeks post op and will have my first drink next Friday for a work function. Have not missed having a drink, even went out for a while last Friday night with hubby and had a 600ml Water last me throughout the night :)

Hi Kelli,

Yeah it's normal to feel discomfort in the first week or so after surgery. I had quite a bit of pain trying to eat Soup. It just wouldn't go down. I think I could only manage a few tablespoons at a time.

I was wondering about this too. I like the odd glass of wine. I am sure that will be ok in future if timed either side of meals.

I don't drink alcohol, so that's not an issue for me. I'm using to drinking with my meals, so if I'm out, I'm only taking tiny little sips of Water, just to not raise any suspicion amongst my fellow diners.

hi aussiegirl' date=' fingers crossed I dont hv to have the drains or leak test either. I think these worry me more than the surgery!!! One week today til surgery..... scared, nervous, excited, worried, having second thoughts, cheering, teary, all rolled into one weird emotion right now :/[/quote']

Don't stress about it all. If you have done your research and are comfortable in your decision there really isn't anything to stress about. If you still have questions to put your mind at rest, now is the time to ask. I think I was unlucky to have drains, as it appears most people don't and the doc will do a leak test, but most types are nothing to worry about. Either way it was only a couple of days discomfort and now after three days I feel great and have no regrets. Take a few deep breaths. You will be fine.

I'm seeing my dietician on Wednesday so I'll ask her if it's normal to 'feel hungry'. I'm trying not to snack between my main meals as I don't want to fall into a pattern of eating crap again and jeopardise my sleeve. I know it's impossible' date=' but constant snacking just because got me to where I was pre surgery.

I've been really bad and haven't had any Opti shakes and my Protein intake is rather low. I'm struggling to drink 1lt of water.[/quote']

Hi Nessa, I was told to ave 3 Optis a day over 6 sessions, so half serve just to keep up the Protein. I was also tod to have 6 small meals per day plus liquids. Are you just trying to ave 3 meals? If so maybe you need the Snacks. My dietician said it's important to eat regularly so you don't get hungry while the body to healing especially.

For the last week I have been having the following;

Optifast - Breakfast

Crusket' date=' avocado & salmon - lunch

Stir-fry/chicken/snitzel/pie /sushi at dinner

Babybel cheese / yoghurt - 1 x snack day

Gatorade

Water

Congrats Scotty for taking this step. I couldn't wait a year either, especially if I had some super to use. I'm just thankful I had my phi but still was out of pocket 7000.

Kelliv - hope you are home and feeling well :)[/quote']

Thanks Shelley, feeling great but I suspect the reality of what I've done hadn't really sunk in yet.

This page has been a bit of a lifesaver for me: I can't believe I start my pre-op diet on Sunday. OMG :) It the final countdown to surgery now! So excited...wishing the time would go really quickly!! I am sure it will - it seems that the last few weeks have flown by!

Lila, before you know it you will be joining us on the other side. I have absolutely no regrets and can remember my last week pre-op and had all these emotions but kept reminding myself I have come this far and I needed to do this. My weight loss has been slow but have noticed the last week I have dropped down a size as my work pants are sliding off me and even gone down to last belt hole. Trying to not let the scale disappoint me and just playing around with foods now.

Anyway your preop will fly by :)

Back off. In time you'll be able to increase your intake, but for now, take things easy. At the first sign of discomfort, stop and maybe try a bit again. Try just having a teaspoon of Soup at a time and take your time eating it.

I use to be a member on the Australian gastric sleeve forum but unsubscribed my membership because there's so many bitchy wankers on there. I had my sleeve done on 10th May 2012 & have since lost 30kg' date=' if your someone considering this op then I HIGHLY reccomend it.[/quote']

Wow Robbie that is great weight loss. Glad you have joined our little thread!

Thanks Nessa, your advice is very much appreciated. Every time I take a sip of anything I get the same pain, so I will slow it down further.

I'm still on that forum once in a blue moon, but find it so hard to navigate that website and things move really slowly. Plus there's **** everywhere LOL.

You have to learn to listen to your body. There are still times where I tend to OD on my meals and feel really full. Need to retrain the brain.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
