Hi everyone' date='

Well I'm finishing my first week of pureed and 1 week to go. I have a question for everyone. Is it normal at this stage to have 1/2cup of food in 20mins? Cause that's what I'm able to do. I'm just worried that I'm eating too much.

Anyway, i'm doing well other than that. Just trying hard to get all my Fluid in. But I'm working on it though[/quote']

That's exactly what my dietitian told me to eat! You're doing great.

Thanks so much Misty! Mine didn't really tell me how much to eat other than with my meat it needs to be 50g portion.

Bec,I was on purée foods last week and I could easily get down 1/2 to 3/4 cup in that time.I was worried also, but she said that's fine.I think it is so different for all of us and as the journey goes on and you progress to more solid food it changes again .Goodluck

I went out to eat for the first time post-surgery. I had about 1/3 of a bowl of laksa from Jackpot Noodle (ate mostly broth and seafood, very little noodles), then later about half a small mocha from Zaraffa's. everything went down fine and I stayed within my calorie budget. It's nice to realize I can be "normal" already.

How exciting for you to be back in the land of normal ness! dinner outings are a little weird for me ATM. I barely make a dent!

Every time I go out for dinner everyone always says 'aren't you hungry?' or 'Don't you like it?' Even waitresses ask 'was there something wrong with the meal love?'

Why do I feel like I have to make excuses all the time instead of telling everyone 'hey, I just got a sleeve ok'. I mean really its no ones business!!

My plan is to just tell waiters, flight attendants etc that "I've just had surgery and can't eat much at the moment". Hopefully this circumvents any further questioning and makes me feel ok that I'm not having to lie to people.

I do that too but I feel like why should I have to tell anyone really as its not their business and some people ask soo many questions!

I don't find people really comment. I just order something small and usually my husband polishes off my leftovers anyway!

I had a client meeting at a soft drink company (not mentioning the name!). It Is kind of expected that you guzzle down the product while the meeting is on! I just had to say that I had stomach surgery that didn't allow me to drink carbonated drinks. The truth!

Hi Cathy

If you have had the go ahead to start eating normal food then all will be ok . Just stick to the "I'm not feeling that hungry today - so I think I will order an entree as my main" line - it works every time and it is the truth. Order Water for your drink and don't drink it - no one will notice - talk a lot and put your knife and fork down while you talk this will slow down your eating and they won't notice that either ( this might only be an issue if you are normally a quiet person!). I know every trick in the book - although everyone knows about my op other than work colleagues I don't know well.

I think eating out is a bit like getting back on the horse! It is challenging, but once you have done it, you won't be so apprehensive next time.

Eating out is something we do a lot in our house so I ate out through every stage including pre op ( which was difficult!). When I say 'ate out' that is a lose term because when I was on the liquid and purée stage I think I drank my shake before I left home then had a coffee and on the purée stage if they didn't serve scrambled egg I was snookered!

Anyway, good luck and enjoy the occasion!

I went out to dinner with 4 girlfriends recently and felt v self conscious that they would notice I wasn't eating much. They didn't seem to notice at all, and I wasn't the only person who left a significant amount of food on my plate. I forget that many people are naturally small eaters - just not me!

Hi all. Sounds like we are doing well. It's nice to see others making the transition to full food.

I think I'm going to stall or have only a tiny loss this week. It's fine, I have been expecting the first stall.

But I'm so pleased with the sleeve. Yesterday we spent the afternoon and evening at a friend's playing board games. There are a,ways chips, lollies, beer, wine etc around. It's so easy to snack. Well, I did! I think I had 3 chips and 2 snakes. LOL! Then there was lovely homemade minestrone for dinner and I had a cup of it, and about 3 cm by 1 cm of brownie, with 1 tbsp cream for dessert. I felt included, I enjoyed the food, and I stayed in my calories. It was important that I didn't make the gathering awkward and I got what I needed too. I will note that I had a smaller Breakfast and morning snack at home and packed some of my own Snacks to have during the day.

Mass this morning, then we are going to get chooks! We have a large back garden and we picked up a chook shed two weekends ago. I'm thrilled. :)

Day 5 preop and no more headaches:)Yay!

People at work are commenting on my weight loss (even tho the scales haven't changed much) and how tired I look. They think I am sick :( I am saying with a smile "Thanks I am on a strict medically supervised diet and everything is fine" then I ask how they are travelling.Works well as a distraction cos people love to talk about themselves! Lol!

I have found in the past that as the weight really comes off people aren't so interested in how much you eat. When I met up with my slim bestie recently she ordered a cooked Breakfast while I had a coffee. The waiter-who took the order in the first place-put this huge meal in front of me and looked surprised when I gave it to my friend :) I know this will change after the sleeve.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
