11 Day Post Op Dr's Appt - Doc Thinks I Should Have Lost More Weight.

Recommended Posts

I'm feeling a little discouraged after my first post op appt yesterday. I'd only lost 9 lbs post but 17 lbs overall. He said most of his patients would have lost atleast 20 by now. Needless to say that i didn't feel good hearing that n it brought back all the fears I had pre op about being the only one this won't work for. Sad face today.

I think you are doing great. Everybody loses at a different rate and I don't think he needs to judge you. You will lose the weight. It is just going to take time. Keep your chin up and just follow the rules by getting in your Protein and fluids.

Everyone's body is different. He's making a generalization and doesn't know your body. You know your body, trust your instincts and what's good for you. You're loosing so you're on track.

Well, you're following the post-op diet your doctor gave you and your body is probably still retaining a bit of Fluid from surgery. At your next appointment, you'll have lost more than the doc is expecting, so he'd better make it up to you then about how fantastic you are doing!

Don't let that thoughtless comment get you down. You're doing great and this surgery WILL work for you!

I don't know why doctors can be so heartless sometimes! He should know better! Stick to your guidelines & do what you can do. Everyone loses at different rates! He really has no right to say that to you if you're following your post-op plan! There are so many factors that come into play with weight loss, especially with surgery added onto it all. Just do your best & don't stress (since stress helps our bodies hang onto weight)!!

**Gman scratches his head**

That seems like a nice weight loss to me. But then again, I don't have degree in medicine and insensitivity.

I think he must have gone to the same pre-med school as my Urologist, Dr. Doom.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
