So far I love this site and I'm looking for some advise and hope you guys can help....I need some good options for Protein Shakes as they are going to be my best friend over the next few years that are lactose free. So far I hear the nectar line is good and I think I'm going to buy the Fuzzy Navel one. I here Unjury may be good as well..I can't imagine drinking fruity drinks all day so Im looking for some chocolate options too.....any help would be appreciated...Thanks

This is kind of on a tangent, but have you tried lactase pills? I have mild lactose intolerance and I find that if I have those before I drink, say, a large latte, then I don't have an upset stomach at all after.

I've avoided lactose like the plague that I've never considered the pills because I'm severely intolerant...if I don't have a restroom close I'm screwed...I will try them too and see how it goes since I have a little time before I need the shakes...What Protein Shakes do you use?

Maybe you'll get lucky and NOT be lactose intolerant after surgery. I've been able to drink milk and enjoy other dairy products with gusto all my life, but developed lactose intolerance after surgery. I wonder if it will work the opposite way for you?

You think now that you'll like chocolate after surgery, but I truly hated sweets for months. I finally have started using the chocolate and vanilla Protein powders in my Decaf coffee instead of Creamer. At least I'm getting some use out of them.

You can use unsweetened almond milk for your shakes and as a milk substitute. As far as Protein is concerned most are soy based, but you have to make sure the carb to Protein ratio preferably is 25% or less.

You will see my other posts for protein and my two favs are smoothie King vanilla Gladiator (McSleevie doesn't like chocolate and strawberry). However Arbonne chocolate and vanilla are flavored great and are a pea protein so the carbs are natural and it is also dairy and gluten free. Let me know if you want samples of these.

If you want to learn more tips and tricks from an 8 month-er that has learned a lot send me a message. I am also a skype coach that helps with menu planning and support via phone, skype and in person here in Tampa.

Talk to you soon!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
