Surgery In 12 Days, Waiting On Insurance Still, Argh!

Recommended Posts

I think the insurance is stressing me out more than the surgery! My sister is flying down to stay with me a week or two and we can't buy her ticket until insurance approves because if they don't the surgery will have to be, of course, rescheduled. Grrrrr. The paperwork was received 4/20 so they've had it about a week. I wonder if that's a normal turn-around time. I keep checking ticket prices and it's gone up $100 just in the last two days. Soooooo stressed!!!! Anyone else had this going on so close to surgery? Seems from what I've read most surgeons don't schedule surgery until after approval but I'm kinda pushy lol. But I'm ready to get rid of this band and move on with my life! Actually have my family on board, which I thought I wouldn't. They think I'm impulsive but what I do is make a decision, get the ball/red tape rolling, and then really dig in with research. You can always cancel if need be, but if you decide to go through you have less wait time. I think that's just good planning!

I've seen enough posts on here about how much better life is with the sleeve to know I'm making the right decision. Everyone cross your fingers that approval comes soon. I keep picturing all the damage this dang band is doing to my body while time passes - like an evil little plastic ninja.

Hang in there! It sounds like insurance is taking their precious time, as usual. You should definitely hear something from them by mid-week. If not, you can always call, call, call and then call them some more! It took my insurance about 4days to approve me, but I was really worried about whether they would or not as well. Now, I'm really nervous about surgery being less than a week away. Yikes!

Thanks lisa! Good luck on your surgery, though I'm sure you don't need it! You'll do great!

I would start calling your insurance company.

My doctor won't even discuss scheduling my surgery until I have an approval letter...

Wishing you a fast approval!!

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
