Made it thru my first 12 hour shift back to work and everything went well except it kinda sucked to have to sit upright for that long....felt like my fat was squishing up into my stomach which was a bit uncomfortable, but I was able to take some small breaks and enjoy the recliner which helped.

Can I get another reminder as to how you are all managing to get your Protein in....I will be trying that vanilla unjury with Orange Crystal Light...that sounds wonderful and I already have the Unjury. I just get so full so fast that it's hard for me to get it all in. Also I am currently eating egg salad, tuna salad, cottage cheese, applesauce and mashed potatoes. Getting a bit bored with it and still have 1 1/2 weeks of it to go....what are you all eating? Take care and will talk to you soon!

I don't know how you can work-- and 12 hours at that. You are amazing! I have been accompanying my husband on household errands to various stores and am exhausted by that.

One of my main Protein sources is Fage yogurt. It has 23 grams per cup. I use one half cup in the morning as a snack and another in the evening. I also have eggs scrambled and sauted and egg salad. An egg is too much to eat, so I just eat the yolk. I do tuna salad and salmon salad. Yesterday I had refried Beans. I also have whey powder prepared with Jello and pudding. The Jello, pudding and yogurt also count as fluids. I have started drinking V-8 juice for Fluid. Tomorrow I will try vegetable Soup (no Pasta or rice) and mash the vegetables. I bought an ice cream, ice yogurt and sorbet maker and will try making "ice cream" using one of eggface's recipes which includes some Protein Powder. I'm trying hard to get some variety and to get fluids and protein out of the same food source.

Other than the protein added to jello and sometimes pudding, I do not use protein powders or drink Protein Drinks. In my opinion, they are terrible. It's a chore, but I have been meeting my Fluid and protein requirements without them.

Joni, I used Muscle Milk during my pre-op. It is not too bad.

I am really struggling. I cannot get my 60 oz fluids in and find time to eat, & my Protein intake is a joke! I have spent boo coos os $ & cannot tolerate the Protein drinks. I have special k protein Water that I like but I can only get about 2 20oz bottles down in a day & they only have 5g each. I have been eating 1/2 egg twice day so that adds Iittle more but still way off goal. I feel like I have really accomplished something if I get more than 50 oz fluids in.

On the other hand, I'm very active (we have farm animals, & I have a dog breeding program) plus 2 teenage boys 13&15 & my dh is 1/2 way around the world in the gulf of Saudi. I h ave pretty much had very minimal help when my brother was able to get off work & he came cleaned my house for me & changed my bed sheets. ;). It's been rough but this has forced me to stay active & I feel pretty good except I'm tired a lot. That will pass I know. Just have to power thru

Btw~ I had a tblsp retried Beans 20 min ago & they were awesome! ;-)

notime - I thought all the Protein of an egg was in the white? You might want to check on that if you're only eating the yolk?

I was so curious, I just looked it up. There is Protein in the yolk, just more in the white. The source I saw said 2.7 gm in yolk and 3.6 in white..... just fyi.... :)

Yes, I had checked, too, and was willing to give up the little bit of extra Protein in the white. I can't eat the whole egg and I've always been a yolk woman!

Well last night's shift was a bit easier than the first one so I am very thankful for that. It wasn't nearly as uncomfortable! One more night and then I am off for 3 days....looking forward to that. So, I read somewhere about grilling a portabello mushroom and throwing it into a blender with a can of cream of mushroom soup...that sounded so good and I think I am gonna try it my next day off. Also, you should check out Eggface's Ricotta Bake,,,it totally falls into our squishy mushy pureed kinda diet. Will look it up and post it for you all....Good Night or Good Morning but I am going to sleep!

That recipe sounds delicious. I have all of the ingredients and will make it tonight. It should give me enough to eat for several meals.

How much can each of you eat? The size of an egg yolk is the most for me. Are we supposed to eat more as our stomachs heal or is this it?

I can eat about 2/3 of a scrambled egg, or a half deviled. maybe a tablespoon of tuna salad or refried Beans.

What I want to know is how in the world yall can get those 60 oz in of fluids. I drink drink drink all day and cannot do it. I must be doing something wrong. Yesterday I got about 55 oz in and was miserable and bloated. And I stayed up until midnight to do it, I got up at 6:30a. I cannot figure this out and I am so scared of getting dehydrated, esp as hot as it is here (Central Louisiana) and I spend a fair amout of time outside. I dont go for my post surgery checkup until 3 weeks post op which is another week. I was supposed to go this Monday but I had to call and reschedule because that day fell on the day my son had his appt with the nuerophychiatrist (My kids were in a bad car accident 9/18/11 and he had head trauma/brain hemmoraging so we are still seeing drs) and I cannot reschedule that.

Oh what to do???/

I'm sorry about your son and hope for the best for him and you. It must be hard for him to understand what has happened to him and what it means.

As far as fluids go, although I drink some Water, I also use foods that count as liquids even though I might not have guessed that some of them are--yogurt, sugar free Jello, sugar free fudgesicles, pudding, V 8 juice, soy milk, etc. My whole diet is geared toward getting variety in taste and consistency while getting the required fluids and Proteins.

When I made up my mind to have the surgery and realized my intake would be severely limited, I resolved to always eat food that I really liked. If 6 tablespoons a day is it, let them be great tablespoons!

Kellie - I'm so sorry about your kids' car accident. Traumatic brain injuries can be so frustrating. Is he still recovering function?

Yesterday was the first day I couldn't get all that Fluid in and I think it was because I had some purees. I think notime is onto something. Maybe it has to do with putting food in our tummies too, so no room for more Fluid. Try to make something you eat count as a fluid too. Soups that you puree would count too, Jello, yogurt. Good luck. I'm having some Tomato juice for the first time since preop and it's just okay. I started my day with an unjury vanilla Protein Drink (8 oz), and this juice is another 8. I haven't had anything solid yet today. I might try a bit of scrambled egg. I'm also planning to have some chicken broth (more fluid). Can't wait til this phase is OVER guys!! I see my primary on Monday - but really for nothing. I don't see my surgeon until the 15th, which will be 3 weeks.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
