What is everyones opinion on rice cakes? The reason i ask is that i saw on fitday that they are only 8 calories per cake.. and i like them! However, my doctor told me that popcorn was forbidden and rice cakes seem very similar to popcorn to me :(

so any advice would be great!

I eat rice cakes and popcorn on a regular basis and they don't bother me at all. In fact, for me, they tend to go through pretty quickly so I can eat a lot of them so I have to be careful.

Why is popcorn forbidden, other than calories involved? The only thing I could see bad about rice cakes is just that rice is high carbs, but at only 8 calories, seems to me to be a good snack.< /p>

BTW - I love my doctor. He said I can have popcorn!

I would think if your Dr "Forbid" popcorn, then you best ask the Dr about rice cakes too.

My Dr. Did not forbid anything, he does suggest not eating things only because it's junk or high calories or carbonated soda but he has never forbid anything and has never suggested I not have popcorn. I think many on here eat popcorn.

Again ask your Dr.

Every dr is different. I eat popcorn almost every night (especially lately) but I did not eat it for the first few months after banding. My nutritionist said it would not be good during the healing process (first 6 weeks) and suggested learning about my band before progressing too rapidly.

Since I was banded in May 2005, my first few months of food were in hot weather. I am much tighter and have to watch what food I eat when its hot. there is no way I would even eat popcorn during the heat today but I can tolerate it at night.

Since rice doesn't work well for me, I would hesitate with rice cakes. But that is just me.

Learn to listen to your body. That is what this is all about.

You must be talking about the mini rice cakes. The large ones are 50-65 calories. The nutritionist told me that popcorn was on the "don't eat" list but I can tolerate it so I occasionally eat it. I try to avoid rice cakes because I find them addictive! LOL.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
