1St Day Of 6 Month Monitored Diet

Recommended Posts

So it begins....I had to change my PCP because my previous doctor had a diet program she wanted me to pay out of pocket. Long story short I told her I wanted bariatric surgery and she refused it completely because she thought her program is better than surgery.

Now I have my new PCP and he got right down to business he told me he would send me for the sleep apnea test which he is sure I have and told me to stop by every month to do weight in.

He finds this 6 month period a setback because my BMI is 51 at 280 pounds that alone should be considered for the insurance to approve so he told me just stop by get you weight in and at 6 month i will write you the letter don't worry :) Has anyone else had they're doctor due this for them???

He did advice me to try and lose some weight before surgery but really didn't give me anything to go by.

My surgeons office gave me very specific guidelines about how my visits with my family doc should go. They gave me 7 forms he should fill out-one for each visit and a auto form letter that my doctor filled out and sent back to the surgeon. My visits had to be monthly for 6 months and the last apt could not be before 180 days from the first.

Yes, my surgeon also gave me a form that my PCP has to fill out but the PCP did not put me on a specific diet plan just told me to come in and get my weight in.

That is all my visits really were. I mean he would talk to me and ask me what I was doing to lose weight. The first few months I actually gained a couple of pounds each month but my grandmother died after lingering for a long time and my family was at war over her will and how she should spend her last days etc, then we also had a trip to WDW and NYC and the holidays. Knowing it was my last holiday season to eat was rough. He wasn't concerned but wanted to know what was up.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
