I'm almost one year out and enjoy coffee every day. In fact, I can hardly function in the morning without it. I waited until I went on solid foods after surgery before I started back, but you'll be able to drink it again, no matter what anyone tells you. By the way, I've lost 113 lbs since my surgery and only 20 lbs to go to my goal. Good luck!

Have you tried Decaf coffee?

I was a regular coffee drinker, drank about 3-4 mugs a day of caffeinated coffee. Then just went cold turkey & been about 5 weeks now & doing great!

So haven't felt the need for coffee, but heard decaf coffee is okay if you needed that coffee fix!

Why kick coffee? Honestly, giving up so many other things we love during the post op phase is hard enough! I never did give it up though I can tell you I had very little of it for the first month or so post op because I was focusing on Protein shakes and Water.

I still drink a Protein coffee every other day or so, and I drink coffee every single day. I cannot drink as much as I used to, though, and that's fine.

The only issue could be how you drink your coffee. If you add tons of sugar and cream you'd better track those calories!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
